    Hammond fury at crash blame

MIRACLE Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was “livid” last night after being BLAMED for the 288mph dragster crash that nearly killed him.

As millions of fans saw ‘Hamster’ Hammond make a triumphant return to the BBC2 show, car owner Colin Fallows accused him of ignoring safety instructions.

Mr Fallows insisted the tyre that exploded at almost 300mph was NOT faulty, claiming the crash would have been avoided if Hammond, 36, had immediately released the dragster’s parachute.

It's too easy to blame someone, why can't people accept that it was just an accident.

    Seems like a money thing:
The BBC and Mr Fallows’ firm, Primetime Landspeed Engineering, may be prosecuted for failing to take due care. Hammond was not available for comment. The BBC has declined to make a statement.

    umm... WHAT?

this is 3 frames after the tire being whole... or, ABOUT .11 seconds

    a) that parachute would have ripped clean off had he pulled it when that happend
    b) the car's owner is just pissed because its obvious why this happened - he put on a rubbish tire and almost killed Richard.

    what a cock.

I think the owners a knob and just wants the BBC to pay for the car damage. Maybe TG could counter claim that the car should have been fitted with new tyres on that last run. With telemetery these days they would have been able to work out what the tyres were like.

    Glad to have Hamster back.

He said Hammond “stood on the brakes” after the blowout, adding: “Once these cars are in motion you don’t touch the brakes.”
Now, I have been driving for only two months now, and even I know, that when things start to go wrong, the first thing on your mind is to press the brakes. The second thought is gripping the wheel and not to let the car swirm.
When going 288 mph I don't think that anyones first thoughts would have been: "Wait, I know! I'm going to forget the brakes and pull this lever so that I will have no further controll over the car."

Furthermore, you see that the parachutes don't deploy instantly. By the time they would have come out, the car was already going sideways and that means they could have not inflated.

Well the parachute would still slow down the car, but in the moment I don't Hammind would be thinking "I should turn off the engine"

Everyone knows he purposely made that tire blow out.

There is no replacement for displacement.
    - Wolfgang Bernhard, then Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Group talking about the Dodge Viper SRT-10
... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

with the way the car was tumbling, (arse about face) the parachute could have whipped around to his head or caused some serious problems while it was tumbling.

I get the feeling that Colin Fallows has 'blinked first'. Getting worried is he?

    It was only an accident.

Thankfully no one was killed and I'm sure everything was insured, can't the owner just accept that?

Hammond — who has recovered from brain injuries — was then jokingly offered tissues by Clarkson in case “you start dribbling”.
    James gets no respect.

Well Richard should have gone to the tire manufacturer plant, check the compound that day to make sure it meets the qaulity standards..follow those tires to make sure they are transported correctly, then to the shop which balanced them to make sure it was correct...check the air or nitrogen to make sure its the correct temp and PSI.

oh and he should have also checked all the other manufactured parts...

    what a joke...

There is a reason why World Speed Record attemps are done with solid wheels on smooth, flat lake beds, this is it. ...
