Default Hammond on Honey Badgers

I'm working my way through his new book "As You Do" erm.....as one does.

Last night got to the chapter about the trip across Botswana and at one point had to put the book down since I could no longer read due to the tears in my eyes as he described this thing called a honey badger* and how it behaves. Clarification: it took me fully 5 minutes to stop chuckling!

I'd post it here but it builds up over nearly three pages and would take forever to type out but I can promise you it's worth the cover price for those three pages alone.

Anyone else got a copy yet?

*In short they are bastard hard and listed in the Guiness Book of Records as the world's most fearless animal. Don't mess in other words.

They aren't. They do have a similar defense system to skunks though, and they look like them too. I think Clarkson might have some sort of irrational phobia of skunks...

I'm sorry, what do you mean by tear worthy?

EDIT: Oh right. The stench is still pretty strong, but not as bad as a skunk or polecat.

Me!

...from a local library. Hey, I'm an impoverished student.

I'm only 50-odd pages in but I'm enjoying it.

I've finished it - I got it on special at Borders in Sydney a couple of weeks back. It was a very easy read (by that I mean you could just pick it up & before you knew it you'd been reading for an hour).

The honey badger appeared around the time they were 'admiring' the comb-over at water hole - both very funny.

I saw a Honey Badger in Namibia this year - didn't look like much but apparently they are the nutter of the animal kingdom and will fight anything no matter how big or fierce. Hammond recounts a hilarious tale of one attacking an elephant that got in its way.
We didn't see it with anything larger than a medium sized fish but our guide told us that though, they prefer honey and will get stung all over to get it, they have been known to get underneath antelopes or Kudu and rip their genitals out then wait for their prey to bleed to death. He also claimed to have seen one caught in a metal trap fight its way out and then turn and attack the trap!

I have finished "As You Do" and while it is no great work of literature it is very entertaining and has some interesting behind the scenes stuff - especially in the Polar section.

Has anyone seen the movie The God's Must Be Crazy II? Very funny movie BTW.

The guy steps on a badger and winds up having to give it his boot to get rid of it.
