Default Hammond to replace Wogan

Quote:
TOP Gear host Richard Hammond is being lined up to take over Terry Wogan’s top-rated radio show.

Hammond, 39, has already filled in on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast slot and bosses think he would make the perfect replacement if Sir Terry retires.

An insider said: “They are excited about Hammond taking over. But they don’t want anyone to know as it may offend Terry or look like they want him to go by planning a replacement.”

Wake Up With Wogan is Britain’s most popular radio show, with 7.73million listeners a day.

The 69-year-old is contracted to carry on until 2009.

Can't see Wogan's fan liking that, and to be honest, Richard's current occasional radio slots are a bit...well, 'local radio'.

i.e, pants!

So now how is Jeremy gonna keep talking about listening to Terry Wogan driving home from the track?

Man, I dunno what's happening with Hammond, but I think after the accident he's popularity exploded and that's not a good thing... such a quick rise is almost always followed by a quick fall. I'm not sure how it is in the UK, but over here most people who make it that big so quickly usually fade away.

I guess I'm a bit peeved that my least favourite TG presenter is getting so much more time in the spotlight than the other two blokes. I just think Hammond is doing too much now... what with Top Gear, opening supermarkets, writing books, writing articles, doing F1 commentary and now replacing Wogan.

Richard does seem to be taking on every job he can get his hands on. I'm sure Top Gear and the odd side job here and there will provide healthily for him and his family, without doing everything he's offered. As you say Shawn, quick rises in popularity are usually followed by the general public getting sick of the person quickly.

Can't see this happening, don't think Terry's going to retire any time soon.

And because I can, here's a recent picture of him.

is richard getting all this attention simply beacuse of his crash?

most people seem to be off the opinion that his reviews are the worst and anything he's done outside off top gear doesn't seem that great whereas may and jezza seem to

It's a view i share. He fits perfectly within the Top Gear trio, but unlike Clarkson and May i cannot stand him outside of Top Gear. I don't rate him as a radio presenter, his afternoon TV show was awful. He was awful as a presenter on Sport Relief. Fair play he had a crash, but he does not deserve this attention. All in my opinion of course. Stick to what you know Mr Hammond images/smilies/smile.gif

Hmmm Hammond replaces Wogan for a couple of days last x-mas and he wasn't too bad me thinks (listened to the mp3 recordings of these shows...).

This is propably one big reason behind this speculation.

Richard has denied it, and his supposed fronting of F1, in his column in today's Daily Mirror - see the F1 thread for the link

And please stop posting that picture of Tel - it's just too disturbing images/smilies/yucky.gif
