I've got both the book and the audio book and they're simply brilliant.
The book is by far the best one I've read all year. It's not exactly an easy read (at least not on an emotional level), but quite interesting and very heartfelt. Like so many before me, I have to agree that Mindy is the better writer. Though in Richard's defence I'd like to add that his part of the book is certainly better written than his column. I think the notion that they only did it to make some extra money is plainly ridiculous. When you read the book, you get the strong feeling that they wrote it as a sort of therapy for both of them and because they thought it's important to share their experiences with others. On a side note about the audio book: I have to say I like Mindy's voice better, even though Richard is the one with the professional radio DJ background. ![]() Mindy is a remarkable woman and I have the deepest respect for her. *points at icon*

Unloved and lacking a title

I finished reading the book last night. Wow, what a great read! Richard's an excellent writer and you can just tell of the confusion he suffered from during his recovery. Mindy is an OK writer but her side of the story was vital in us knowing what Richard's recovery was like and how it affected the friends and family that love him dearly.
Fantastic book, I suggest you all get your hands on it in some legal form, don't be a cheap skate. |

I spotted the book in an airport newsagent and bought it immediately. A very good read although I did find myself flicking ahead to see when Mindy was going to hand the keyboard back to Richard. The family/female/serious aspect became a bit drawn out for me and I was longing for something more from Richard for a change - sort of the literary equivalent of a flickering eyelid, so I would know all was well for the rest of the book.

There's a five page extract of the book covering the crash in this months Reader's Digest, it has only served to whet my appetite further for reading the whole thing!

I just got done listening to the audio book, of it. from audible.com. I haven't read the book, but I would say that with out a doubt the adio version is compleatly better. To hear the emotion from Mindy. Wow just wow. I'm not ashamed to say I wept like a school girl. The love and dedication that she has toward Richard is something that we should all hope for in our wives. You say top job Richard, I say top job to Mindy as well. I found Top Gear about a year ago and have scrambled to watch every episode. I have every one from this site saved on me hard drive and watch it everyday. I feel, and I'm sure that you can identify with this, that Jeeza, hampster, and the captin are almost like my mates. So in hearing this story from Richard in a first hand format, felt as if me best mate was telling it to me. Great job with the book, and fatastic story. May we all wish to have the strength to pull through a difficult situation as the Hamster did.

Does Hammond write about Jeremy and James in the book? If he does, what?
And also, if someone finds a torrent for the audio book please let us know

I got this book for christmas and just recently finished it, and it was a brilliant book!
it was an amazing read with all the emotion and confusion he went through. I particulary loved the middle section of the book which his wife wrote, to read it from her point of view was just amazing! There was a line that made me laugh out loud, which was soo typical of Jeremy, when he first visited Richard in Hospital, he whispered to richard: "your a shit driver mate"
