Default Hamster set to be talk host

TOP Gear star Richard Hammond is being lined up to replace Richard and Judy when the telly duo quit next year.

Pint-sized Hamster, 37, is in talks with bosses about the job – his first major new show since the 288mph crash that nearly killed him last year.

We revealed yesterday how Richard and Judy are due to step down next summer.

The move came after it emerged C4 was unlikely to offer them a new deal.

What would that mean for TopGear? Can he be on BBC2's TopGear and a Channel Four programme aswell? I can't see him giving up TopGear.

Wasn't Brainiac on a different channel?

EDIT:

Yep: It was on Sky One and Sky One HD (then repeated on Sky Two and Sky Three, and on other various channels in different countries)

The non-brits probably won't understand right away, but that's a huuuge gig. Everyone knows Richard and Judy, even if, like people with lives, they don't watch it.

It's a big show with big viewership, but more daytime TV, oh dear.

Anyway don't get excited, The Sun is the worst of the worst of the fish & chip wrapping tabloid newspapers. "In talks with bosses" doesn't mean anything, despite what the headline promises.

Wasn't he forced to stop doing Brainiac for just that reason?

Maybe. There's some speculation on that:

"Richard Hammond presented until series four, when he quit the show. There were reports that he didn't turn up to filming for up to a week, because he no longer wished to do the show. However, as his contract stated he had to complete the whole series, he recorded only the voice-over work for the remaining episodes - possibly the reason for this series running shorter than any other to date. An alternative reason for Richard's departure may have been due to him having signed an exclusive contract with the BBC, meaning he could no longer present programmes on any commercial channel. Vic Reeves was brought in as replacement host shortly after the end of the Fourth Series."

Yes he signed "golden bracelet" or "handcuff" contract with BBC, meaning he can only work for BBC. (he got ONE mil pounds for it).

The King & Queen of British daytime tv.

Judy's most famous moment came whilst collecting a television award. As she started her acceptance speech her top came undone and her jugs fell out.

Richard Madeley most notorious moment was when he was charged with stealing champagne from Tesco's. He was miraculously cleared after the psychologist told the court that he was more forgetful than 95 per cent of the British population.

I think you'll find that story was also in The Sun.

Also, the Top Gear presenters are self employed, (read the HSE report into the crash) so they can do whatever they like wherever they like.

I'm pretty sure he does have a golden handcuff deal with the BBC so I don't think he can do this.

Yes, it was called "The Five O'Clock Show". General interviews and cocking about. Some of it was good, but his co-presenter, Mel Giedroyc, was a bit rubbish. Must have been early 2006, as he had John Barrowman on while he was doing "Dancing On Ice".

The BBC confirmed today that Hammond signed a two-year contract before his accident. The deal was reported in Broadcast magazine in September, but a spokeswoman could not say exactly when Hammond signed the contract.

The spokeswoman said: "We don't comment on the amounts of individual contracts.

"I can confirm that Richard Hammond signed a two-year exclusive contract with the BBC. The contract pre-dates the accident."

She said the corporation could not confirm the return of Top Gear or any other future projects until it had received an update on Hammond's progress.

This story is nonsense. No one in the UK believes what is published in the Sun - except the football results and the TV listings
channel four has said that many different people are "in talks" to replace Richard and Judy.
Hell, they even rang my and my friend Bob
