They say the good racing drivers are relaxed when they're in the car. I'm the same way just driving around so I figure I would do decently, about the middle of the board or so.

I love fas5t cars but I am seriously crap at driving (OK I am Mr. Safe then, never ever had an accident since 1987 when I passed my test) - I would indicate at every corner - so bugger.

Faster than Jeremy, slower than the Stig. I have a great deal of track experience.

Of course I can not be 100% sure of my abilities, and I said "for my age". What I meant was I roughly know what the car will do when pushing it and now it is winter here I have been taking the ESP off on purpoes on smaller roads to know what it does etc. None of my mates even consider doing anything like that.

Now I'm not trying to bash you're opinion, you do have a fair point. Just trying to explain what I meant by saying I have better car controlling abilities than the average driver here.

i know what your talking about, what your doing will help with fundementals, but don't try to expand in the real world until you've had some time to try actual corners, things seem alot different when you actually have to follow lines instead of just sliding around car parks, i know that what your doing helped me atleast a tad bit because i've been fairly successful in autocross and at my trackdays, the parkinglot stuff will help, but it wont solidify anything so take it easy out on the roads till you can get to a track, okay ?

i didn't vote, i really have no clue, id like to think i'd be faster then that Oliver chef retard guy, but maybe i wouldn't

Seeing as this is the internet, and everyone is completely honest, modest and can prove every claim they make, I'd do it in -1:39, actually finishing before I started.

Trust me, I wasn't planning on doing that. I am a rather rare breed of a 20'ish male driver, because I rather learn to drive first to see if I can go fast than drive fast to see if I can learn it. Need to gather some money first, then I was planning to take lessons at The Rauno Aaltonen school of driving. That name should say something to rallyfans. After that my own car and off to track days. a 1.8 Mondeo Estate is not what I'd call a "performance vehicle".

After only a few laps, I'm not sure. But I'm confident that I could get down to 1:47 or lower with a days practice. The thing that would keep me from going around a race track competitively is cowardice at the high speeds, but at the Liana's top speeds I wouldn't be scared.

comming from a man who says he owns a CBR 600?

different vehicles feel better at different speeds, for example a ford tempo can do 110, but its can be scary at even 60mph because its such a crappy car, whereas alot of german cars can go way too fast for american roads yet feel completely sane because their so composed

ive also once heard a F1 driver say that his racecar felt more comfortable at 150 then it did at 50mph

I have driven a few miles in a Suzuki Liana while on vacation last year, and i have to say: It's crap. But i have some track experience , am not 100% talent free, and I am very competitive by nature, so i reckon a 1.48/1.49 has to be possible.

Ok so since my thread was a repost will post in here.

Given my amount of competition experience I would be extremely unhappy not to be faster than all the celebrities. So basically a mid 1min46 in the Liana or a mid 1min45 in the Lacetti.

The hardest part would be not overdriving the car. Would be very easy to drop to a 1min48 or something by just trying to go to fast.

The only tracks ive driven on have hills, ruts and mud holes on them so I don't think id be that quick on a race track. Could be good for a laugh mind you

I'd like to believe, like most people, that I'm a pretty good driver and after a bit of Stig instruction could do "Reasonably" well but in all honesty anything sub 1'50" would be great although the idea of beating Jay Kay and Captain Codpiece does leave me "nursing a semi"!!!! Can't imagine beating Hamilton or His Holiness the Stig.
