Default I met Captain Slow

Been on the site downloading episodes of Top Gear for a long time but never really posted on the site. My friends tell me that folks on these forums may get a kick out of this.

So I went backpacking in Europe with my friends and our last stop was London. After watching England lose to Portugal in penalties, we went back to our hostel and stopped at a supermarket to get groceries. Here's what happened:

Friend #1: Dude, there's a guy over there that looks a lot like James May...

Naturally, I didn't think much of it. I mean...James May doesn't look that out of the ordinary, really.

Friend #2: <went to go have a look> ...yeah, he does look like James May...but he's dressed like a gondola guy from Venice...and he's barefoot...

Whether or not it was James May...I just wanted to see the dude anyways.

Me: ...no way...

Me: ...I think that really is James May.

Friend #2: ...but he's...barefoot.

Now I didn't really believe it at first but I remember that on the show, Clarkson and Hammond did say that Captain Slow lived in Hammersmith, which was exactly where we were, really. And it REALLY looked like James May...apart from the clothes. He sometimes has...questionable clothing but he doesn't strike me as a guy that would leave his house without...well...shoes.

Me: Excuse me, sir. Sorry to be a bother but...would you happen to be James May?

James May: Why, yes I am.

Me: Wow...we're big fans of the show. We're from Canada.

James May: Fantastic!

He sounds just like he does on TV, really. Real nice guy. He said he just woke up (...it was...like...8pm) and was going out to buy a paper. He lived nearby. He kindly took a picture with us but asked us not to get his feet in it. He was terribly nice so we didn't but it was freakin' hilarious anyways.

If Clarkson or the production team find this thread you can bet it gets mentioned at some point.

I'd buy him a drink and start discussing cars. As most here probably would. images/smilies/smile.gif

That is awesome. Great way to make an entrance as well. images/smilies/welcome.gif

Is it just me, though, or does he look like a serial killer who's been interrupted from his daily butchering? Then again, you did say it was early... images/smilies/unsure.gif

And I really hope this gets a mention on the news, I'd love to see Clarkson ripping May for walking to get groceries barefoot or something.

This is why I prefer James May- like I would, he does out of the ordinary things just like that:
