It would allow them to mock even more the prius and all those rubish hybrids

diesels are just as good as petrols now. It would be no different from the petrol car challenges.

Thus we could use an old diesel car challenge

Didn't they already do this with the Audi diesel? I think they went 600 miles on a single tank.

Jeremy did London to Edinburgh and back to London on a single tank in an Audi A8 TDI, which was 800 miles.

Yeah, but that was a new car. If they go for, say, Mercedes 240D, Peugeot 505 diesel, and Rover 800 diesel as part of a diesel-only cheap car challenge, just think of the potential for hilarity just from the grumbling alone.

It'd be even better if somehow England still had one intact shitty GM diesel from the late 70s/early 80s, preserved just for this challenge.
This article proves that no matter how shitty and biased Car and Drivel is, they still occasionally do awesome stuff like this.

Did they ever export the 5.7 diesel? If so, man oh man oh man. Hammond would buy one and get torn apart by May and Clarkson.

I once took a M-B 200D for a test drive. It still hasn't reached 100 km/h.

As for the challenge, yes sounds like fun. Old, turbo-less diesel powered cars. Should be fun watching them go round the track. And then use a modern diesel as a benchmark driven by the Stig

just any "let's see who can get the furthest with x amount of fuel" challenges would be fine.
because I'd expect Jeremy and Hamster to race each other and run out of fuel within seconds, and have May cruise to victory with the slowest average speed of any car ever |

Sounds like a recipe for a great challenge.

I liked the idea of the first cheap car challenge, going from a to b cheaper in a car you bought than it would cost you on the train. Maybe something like that but across Europe.

How about a Petrol vs Diesel vs Hybrid challenge! Proving that the Hybrid is not as economic as it makes out!
