Default Interview James - telegraph 13-11-09

Nice interview with James in the Telegraph:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/...James-May.html

Quote:
“I conceived Toy Stories as a sort of science and engineering programme, but once we started doing it, we discovered a fantastic community element to doing stunts with big toys – it’s a great leveller.”

He also loves the thought that his programme actually results in a product: “In Top Gear, everything goes wrong, because you have Jeremy Clarkson, so any practical activity ends in a pile of bits. In Toy Stories we try to make things work.”

Excellent article, but it would be nice if they'd cut the 'women only like James because they want to mother him' crap. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Thanks for the link!

"That’s the strange thing about May; he is an aesthete and academic with a taste for the finer things in life, but is equally happy hamming up the blokey, testosterone-fuelled side of himself, sneering at Oz Clarke’s attempts to make him understand “poncy” wine and indulging in those mindless pub dilemmas along the lines of how many cheese sandwiches you can fit in a Mini."

And that's why we love him. images/smilies/smile.gif

James' Autocar "incident" is becoming his jet car crash. Is it possible to write an article about him without mentioning that??

Well at least the Autocar event is funny. images/smilies/tongue.gif

It shows that even back then James was a peron with a very original mind.

I was reading about what he did with Autocar, very funny stuff. Sort of reminds me of the infamous picture in the Ikea catalog from 2007.

Thanks for the link, that was great to read.

I love the fact that he's interested in shoes. I can't imagine what he does with them, as he only ever wears the one pair

LindenChase should ask her buddy Maygrail for a scan. Cute picture accompanies this article in the newspaper - well I think it's cute anyway

Or the black dress ones? Or the sneakers he's owned forever? That's three pairs right there.

Hmm, a direct link to the pic doesn't seem to work but here's a link to the page where you can see it: (Not Maygrail, but thanks to DutchDiva this time.) And yes, cute pic. images/smilies/cool.gif

They are pretty uninformed, writing that James joined Top Gear in 2003.
He first joined TG in 1999, taking over for Jezza after he left the show.

To most people, James did join in 2003. Old TG would be a foreign concept.

Erin Baker's technically his boss. She edits Telegraph Motoring, so she's pretty well informed.

I think most people have tried to forget old top gear. It's a bit painful to watch.
