I find it a bit weird. I wouldn't think the BBC would allow a presenter of a car show to promote an alcoholic drink. Besides, it's more Richard's thing to do this kind of commercial stuff.

Don't forget that James is also the presenter of a liquor show, so it makes sense. And I always figured that he only promoted things he liked.
Actually that makes it even stranger. The BBC are very strict on what their presenters are allowed to advertise. They are not allowed to advertise anything that is reflected in the programmes that they do. Perhaps that means that there are no more Oz & James boozy shows in the pipeline.
Wonder if the fail will try to make a fuss.

Funny and a very clever way to stress that James is not promoting drink driving.In the TV campaign, May steps out of the house and walks to his local pub. Appearing to have pre-empted May’s arrival, the barman places a pint of London Pride in front of him. May says to camera:" This is the one thing I’ll walk somewhere for." The camera cuts to a close-up of a pint of London Pride on the bar. May is then heard to say in the background: "I think I’ve got a blister."

Odd I am a Londoner and I like real ale but not Fullers. Shepherd and Neame, and Youngs are yummy, Brakspears, Harveys, Greene King IPA and Abbott are all nice but not Fullers. Sorry.
After reading this thread, I just felt 26.8% more British.
If I were famous enough to garner endorsements, however, I wouldn't shy away from promoting products that I clearly enjoy: I'd look at it as a chance to share my enthusiasm with others instead of whoring myself for a check. This isn't Paris Hilton eating a cheeseburger here; clearly James May likes London Pride enough to promote it in the first place. He's not exactly strapped for cash (unless there's something he's not telling us about).
And - bless him - he's fronting a whole ad campaign and still doing it wearing his own clothes.
At least he's promoting beer... he could be a complete sellout and do something like Stephen Fry did for Sky.

I don't really mind him doing this beer thing, as long as it doesn't become his thing to promote random junk. Last I heard he also wasn't making as much at TG as the other guys, so I don't blame him at all.
AFAIK, James and Richard still make less from TG combined than Jeremy does.
