James new face of London Pride beer

Buzz on twitter. James is apparently the new face of London Pride. And no, not of the gay movement, much as Jezza and Richard would want us to believe, but of the beer.

I find it a bit weird. I wouldn't think the BBC would allow a presenter of a car show to promote an alcoholic drink. Besides, it's more Richard's thing to do this kind of commercial stuff.

Hmm .... Well if it turns out to be true at least it's a product he would truly endorse. Pride is a lovely pint.
Hey! I just realised I was in the Counting House on Cornhill earlier this week! It's a very nice pub but full of city twats.

Don't forget that James is also the presenter of a liquor show, so it makes sense. And I always figured that he only promoted things he liked.

Actually that makes it even stranger. The BBC are very strict on what their presenters are allowed to advertise. They are not allowed to advertise anything that is reflected in the programmes that they do. Perhaps that means that there are no more Oz & James boozy shows in the pipeline.

Some more info about what James is up to!

"James is a great fit for the brand," said David Spencer, brands marketing manager for London Pride. "He loves beer, his favourite beer really is London Pride and it's his local pint as well, brewed in Chiswick round the corner from his house. We are confident that James' fame and popularity will bring a British classic like London Pride to a new, broader audience."
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...medium=twitter
    http://www.thepublican.com/story.asp...code=68082&c=1

    Edit:

And another article with some more info about the commercials and rest of the campaign.

    link!

In the TV campaign, May steps out of the house and walks to his local pub. Appearing to have pre-empted May’s arrival, the barman places a pint of London Pride in front of him. May says to camera:" This is the one thing I’ll walk somewhere for." The camera cuts to a close-up of a pint of London Pride on the bar. May is then heard to say in the background: "I think I’ve got a blister."
Funny and a very clever way to stress that James is not promoting drink driving.

    In James' own words:

London Pride is a British classic that deserves wider fame and fortune. More than that, it’s absolutely bloody lovely. I don’t really do advertising, but for a beer like this, I’m happy to make an exception. I love beer, I love London Pride and now, after this campaign, I’m hoping I can move into the brewery permanently and possibly even be adopted by the Fuller’s family. I’m not sure they’ll go for it, but it’s worth a try.
James Fuller.... it has a nice ring to it.

Odd I am a Londoner and I like real ale but not Fullers. Shepherd and Neame, and Youngs are yummy, Brakspears, Harveys, Greene King IPA and Abbott are all nice but not Fullers. Sorry.

After reading this thread, I just felt 26.8% more British.

If I were famous enough to garner endorsements, however, I wouldn't shy away from promoting products that I clearly enjoy: I'd look at it as a chance to share my enthusiasm with others instead of whoring myself for a check. This isn't Paris Hilton eating a cheeseburger here; clearly James May likes London Pride enough to promote it in the first place. He's not exactly strapped for cash (unless there's something he's not telling us about).

And if you're suited up and you look like a million bucks and you look like a success, you'll be the guy that gets tapped to sit with the chairman. And if you're wearing a pullover sweater and no necktie, you're not going to be sitting with the chairman. You'll be sitting with some other journalists who are dressed just like you are." David E. At least he's promoting beer... he could be a complete sellout and do something like Stephen Fry did for Sky.

I don't really mind him doing this beer thing, as long as it doesn't become his thing to promote random junk. Last I heard he also wasn't making as much at TG as the other guys, so I don't blame him at all.

AFAIK, James and Richard still make less from TG combined than Jeremy does.

Fry's always had a thing for technology however, and 3D TVs (in his mind, anyway) are more logical as a result.

    Also, Fry's?
