Just read in the Jaguar Article :
"but the acid test is whether you like a car or not. It's the Nissan 350Z syndrome - a car that's great in every respect except I'd rather saw off my own foot than have one." Does someone have an explanation for this ? I saw his 350Z test, when he rolled through dark british streets trying to find some bad things about the car or his test against the TT and the Crossfire Cabrio. He always tries to find something against it. After so many prices and good tests from Magazines around the planet and nearly 2 years living with my 350Z I cannot understand his opinion. He doesn´t seem to find a REAL reason to think so. Is it the same like the 911 thinking ? What´s the problem of this man ? Or why does he´d rather saw a foot off ??? |

You're trying to find logic in JC's opinions - give up, it can't be done. Just enjoy the entertainment he and TG brings

Yeah, a car can be excellent, but that doesnt mean you'll like it.
For example, i don't really like the SLR.. I think it's vulgar, and not very pretty. But i still accept that it is a really, really good car.. ![]() It's all about taste, you can't really discuss it. |

Seems like Fezza does apreciate the 350Z:
(refering to the new Jaguar XK) "It's the Nissan 350Z syndrome - a car that's great in every respect except I'd rather saw off my own foot than have one. " http://www.topgear.com/content/featu...ries/11/1.html

I feel the same way about the 350Z as JC does. It's a good car, but I'd rather beat the hell out of it with a shovel than drive it. I don't know why, I used to work at a Nissan dealer so maybe I was too saturated with the image of it beeing better than it actually is.
It's kinda wierd, Clarkson either loves or hates the same cars I love or hate. So I respect his opinion, but you should always take his opinion with a grain of salt. Remember he's slowly becoming an Entertainer first, then a Journalist.

Like many with porsche - ill admit they are fantastic cars, just not my cup of tea.
Plus there is the line he used on the news: JC "You show up at a drinks party, 'So Richard, what are you driving?" RH "A Nissan - I see your point"

No, but then you'd be one of those people who has to explain what sort of nissan you have, and as we all know from the cool wall - thats not cool (even if it is a brilliant car!)

I can see the "I have a Aston Martin" vs. "I have a Nissan GT-R" argument. But I don't think I would buy a car because the brand sounds cool... says the BMW fanatic. But it seems to be mostly in my ears BMW sound cool, so I don't think it applyes there

How about instead of saying "Nissan" say "I drive a 350Z?" Problem solved.
I was partial to the RX-8 personally. Not quite as fast as the 350Z but it corners on rails and is a blast to drive. |

Yup, two too many cars, but I love 'em: 1991 Peugeot 309 - owned it for four years, currently the only runner and the daily driver... but great fun to drive! French though, so gotta treat her rough to keep her happy. 1989 Toyota MR2 Mk1 - owned it for two years. Love it loads. Currently undergoing a suspension upgrade... 1987 Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC - A project car that had Headgasket issues when I bought it. I've never driven it... yet... |

If they are that thick then you can say 350Z and just leave it at that. If they don't know what it is then at least they won't picture a Micra.

It isn't because Jeremy hates Nissan, he had no problem saying in his article about British cars on TopGearcom "And the car I'm most looking forward to in the next few months is the new Nissan Skyline." So he's not trumpeting badge-snobbery after all. He just doesn't like the 350Z.
I understand exactly what BukTu is saying about the SLR. I'm the same. I hate the bloody thing with a passion, would't take one if someone wanted to give me one. No, acutally I'd take it, sell it and buy something worthwhile. But I'm happy to admit it's an amazing car. A lot of you are similar with the Veyron, happy to admit it's extraordinary, but you'd have the McLaren F1 long before you considered a Veyron.
