Wow, massive bump. And no, the Renault connection is non-existent. The Nissan 3.0 VQ engine came out in 1995, a full four years before Renault involvement in the company. Not to mention that the 350Z has a 3.5 L V6, derived from the non-Renault 3.0 V6. That article is really iffy on its fact-checking.

Hm? The VG30DE and DETT came out with the Z32 300ZX in 1990. I'm pretty sure the VQ, in the US at least, came out in 1995 to replace the VG30E and VE30DE in the Maxima.

the M5 and the Flying Spur are BRAND spanking new.
the Quattroporte has been around a bit....when the Flying Spur and the M5 weren't around..the Maser was quite the naughty saloon car. |

Oh wow, another gayDM fanboy. Next he'll be posting about Silvias and the "truck engine" KA.
Funny how the fanboy got his own engine code wrong, dumbass. |

He is correct! The engine in the 350Z in its current form was first used in the Vel-satis.
It may be based on a Nissan Design, but its constant evolution has changed it considerably. It was Renault money that transformed it into what it is today. In fact, it was Renaults money which gave us the whole Infiniti lineup as we know it today. Before the French cash, Infiniti's were just nissans' with wooden dashboards. As for calling it a Datsun. They are one in the same. It's like calling the Chevy Matiz a Daewoo. Hence the joke. In fact, my mom stills calls it datsun.

Despite my unstoppable Nissan fanboy tendencies (had a 1990 Maxima and loved it), I fear you're right, autostream. Specifically, the VQ35DE was first used in 2001 in the Vel Satis as well as the Nissan Pathfinder of the same year. So why doesn't JC call it a Renault with a Datsun engine?? (no, I'm not being serious)
