Default Jeremy says no to hosting US Top Gear

According to the Sun newspaper this morning plans have been shelved for the American version of Top Gear because Jeremy doesn't want to live the states.

Shame.

ps. The article said Jeremy didn't want to be away from his family.

Suffice to say, BBC Worldwide still has aspirations to take Top Gear to the US and there’s no reason why those plans shouldn’t include Jeremy.

And if they need to edit some out to make room for commercials, just remove the Star In A Really Crappy Car segment. Nobody here in the US will care.

Can you blame him? Apart from his disliking of America, it would mean living here for several months. I couldn't think of many things worse than being in a country I don't want to, and being away from my family, at the same time.

Im sure Clarkson would have done it 10 years ago but hes no need now. Hes a 'cult' celeb i guess, the show is already broadcast around the world, hes got plenty of cash, at least two nice homes, nice cars, and he looks like he has real fun making Top Gear in the UK.

(Plus he hates the US images/smilies/lol.gif )

Great news all round. A US show would have a impact on the UK version. If fans can still get a unaffected show via torrant.

Imagine the lawsuits Jezza would have had to face if he hosted Top Gear, in it's current format in the US.

Probably Huge amount of Lawsuits, but there wud be no complaints whatsoever. I personaly think he shud do it. British TG is great, but they are runnin out of Britain very quickly, they've already been to US twice (Fort GT in season 3 & American Special). In JC"s mind America is a dreadfull country (and it probably is) but that move wud double TG audience, plus JC, May & Hammond wud get twice the cash or even more.

^ But it's British, and the car market changes all the time so it must remain British.

They missed a huge opportunity. 4 Months in America, big deal. They could invite JaY Leno, use some of his cars. They could test all the cars, that aren't being imported to Britain, like maybe Acura or some new Pickup Trucks. Plus i just want them to expose, how bad US cars actualy are. Maybe they could recreate that new "Build in US Toyota Tundra", which can hold 4-6 tonns of a cliff. I just want to see them recreate it & then their faces, when car, 6-tonn trailer & the whole ramp with crains fall into abyss.

It was only like 6000 pounds I think. Strictly a traction issue, so just throw some weight in the rear end any truck with a decent V8 engine can do it.

Doesnt quite add up.

You'd know full well if you embarked on brokering a deal of this type that would require a large amount of time in the US.

If you were not prepared for that, why bother trying to broker the deal at all ?

Oh, it's in the Sun, so it must be true !

Good! We don't need Top Gear USA. What is needed is for Top Gear (The One and Only) to be broadcast in the USA as it is broadcast in the UK and elsewhere. Extend the show (rather than cut it) to add in the commercials, or show it on a cable channel without commercials.

Top Gear, in its current form, has been on air for nearly 10 years in the UK. It would not have lasted more than a few years in the US before it got replaced by some idiotic "reality show" like "Are You Smarter Than A Tree".

All stereotypes aside, the true idiots in this country are the corporate and network execs.

So, R.I.P. Top Gear USA. Bring on Top Gear!
