Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Knight Jeremey Clarkson? Sir Jeremy Clarkson. Jeremy Clarkson I personally feel should be made Sir Jeremy by the queen. I reckon he has not only been a very sucessful person, but he's also host of the world's biggest car show. He also is a great journalist who writes really excitingly and I love all his work. So, do you think jeremy should be made a Sir? I said yes. Maybe the queen will read this thread and make him one ![]() As for the Dutch option that's a little joke don't take any offense, lol ![]() Last edited by Goose+; October 30th, 2006 at 10:03 AM.. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Sure he's controversial, but so are alot of the other people that are knighted. Alot of other well known British TV people have got knight hoods. Erm Trevor Mcdonald (or as I call him, Trevor Mc Donut ). Anyway, Jeremy is just as famous as trevor so why not make him one too? |

Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am quite aware of that, thank you very much. The point was, that if the queen could give a MBE to a bunch of Rockers who made teens drink, do drugs and have sex, she can sure as hell give it to an allthough controversial, but still extremely important person in not just the british, but also the international car enviroment. He has made gold out of rock, and if it wasn't for him, there would be very much less interest in cars. Only problem is James will be very sad he didn't get an invitation to Buckingham Palace.

Car: Toyota MR2 Mk1, Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC, Peugeot 309 Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() | He has had a big influence in this country from what I've seen, not just in automotive journalism and enthusiasm towards cars, but also enthusiasm towards engineering in general. When I was still doing my undergrad course, it was strange that quite a few of the freshers (when I was in final year) had been inspired to do engineering rather than physics/maths due to his program about Brunel, and a couple of other journos bits about engineers. I reckon he will get one. But I have a feeling it won't happen until after Top Gear. I don't know why, but I just don't think it will. Part of his appeal with Top Gear is that he is so controversial. I wouldn't be surprised if they're waiting to see how far he goes before awarding him anything - just in case he embarrasses the establishment...

| I don't get why these people get the status of knight ... just because they're celebrities and that their work influences people? Hitler influenced people really well, should he be a "knight"? Maybe the people that are REALLY inspirational to a country giving out only good values through their work should get there. Also, they should have an enormous amount of patriotism, should be involved in all sorts of good things for their community and country. Also, they should be speaking out for their fellow citizens on issues concerning their country, being on a constant pace to achieve good things in the name of their country. AKA People that actually use their talents to promote what their country stands for. Now THOSE people should be knights, not f*@king David Becham. Why is he so fit to be a kinght? Because they show him every night on TV and the brits can't get enough of their favourite footballer? Because the whole world knows him and associate him with britain or england, thus giving the world a sense that the brits are absolute masters at soccer? wtf .. Please excuse the language, but the royal family sure knows how to pick their knights ... just like askmen.com sure knows how to pick their list of top 49 men. | |

Car: Toyota MR2 Mk1, Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC, Peugeot 309 Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() | Vladmitu, kinda with you on that one - Beckham wouldn't be my first choice at someone eligible for a knighthood - in fact he'd be far down. But then I'm not a football fan. However, you do seem to have said yourself why he should get it. As much as I hate to say it (as I'm not exactly a fan of the guy) he has been very patriotic, represented his country many times in one of the best ways possible, uses his talents to promote his country, and IIRC has helped with football schools back home. Hitler wasn't British, so wouldn't stand a chance... ![]()

| Hitler being knighted would be an insult to him ... remember, he was the totalitarian ruler of Germany at his time. He was way past knighthood, he gave ranks himself. He was "teh Fiuohrer" aka "teh crazy mustache guy ... don't mess with him". If the queen would have knighted him, I think he'd be furious, knowing how maniacly nationalist he was. | |

Car: 98 M3, 03 330i Rep Power: 0 ![]() | It seems some you guys are taking the term "knighted" wrong. When an individual is awarded the title GBE or KEB, he automatically becomes a knight and can be addressed "Sir." However, MBE, OBE and CBE are honorary titles, being awarded a such title doesn't make one a knight, thus cannot be addressed "Sir." With a honorary title, a person can be made a hononary knight (Knights Bachelor) by the Queen, which will grant this person the "Sir" status. For example, both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are MBEs, but only McCartney has been knighted, so he is Sir Paul. Another example would be Frank Williams (of Williams F1) and Ron Dennis (of McLaren), both are CBEs, but only Williams can be addressed Sir. Honorary titles are awarded on the basis of providing services to the empire, nothing special is required. It usually takes years if not decades before a MBE/OBE/CBE can be put on the New Year or Birthday honours list to be knighted. If I'm not mistaken, Clarkson has already been titled a CBE for his services to journalism, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets knighted years later, after winning a couple of more Emmy's. BTW, a person of other nationality can indeed be knighted by the Queen, but cannot use the "Sir" title. Bob Geldof and Bill Gates are 2 examples.

Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Maq, as I stated earlier, I do know that an MBE and a KBE is something quite different. My point was, as I believe I have also stated, that it was pretty damned controversial back then. Controversy shouldn't be the worst problem.
