Uhmmm.. Pink Floyd just sucks.

Are there any left?
Uh...The Who (better than Led Zep, IMO, begin the flamewar)? Rolling Stones? Cream? Eric Clapton's other efforts? Later on, David Bowie and Queen? Motorhead? Besides, Hendrix didn't break out massively until he soaked up the British rock scene and went back to the States. Everybody was stealing/borrowing from everyone, so you really can't nail the Brits any worse than the Americans, for example Elvis yanking the styles from the black bluesmen of Memphis.

Right, back on topic. Yes, knight JC just for a spot of controversy.

First of all I knew someone was going to come back at me with The Who. Let me definitively say – for the record – The Who suck and are gay. They suffer from the same problem as Pink Floyd, which are weak hooks and a completely lack of emotional conveyance. The only one remaining out of that list of bands that sticks out to me is the Rolling Stones. But, honestly do you know any real Stones fans? I don’t. And I know a lot of old people.

And as for Jimi Hendrix. PLEASE!!! He started the British rock scene images/smilies/bangin.gif At least the heavier sound of it. Eric Clapton went to see him play one night at a club. Twenty minutes later his friends found him crying in the back of a parked cab, because he realized he would never be able to play as good as him. And Hendrix didn’t even play that good by American instrument standards.

And back to The Who. Their biggest album was what “Who’s Next?” And most of the guitar licks from that were stolen from Leslie West of Mountain. Pete “Pedophile” Townshend paid Leslie to come in and play some backup/rhythm guitar. (I’m paraphrasing the story) But, when he got there Townshend said he would like Leslie to play lead instead. Leslie thought this was odd, but said alright, and improvised as best he could. Finishes and then goes home. Next thing he knows when the album comes out, his name is nowhere to be found and all his guitar solos were being played (poorly) by Townshend on the record.

Yes the beatles were and are lame, but pink floyd is better then any american band, other than maybe the holy doors. (who are only ahead because they managed to carve out just as much of a reputation in only 4 years)

Experts and laymen would disagree with you completely, but I suspect neither of them are likely to sway you...oh well, to each his own.

images/smilies/yawn.gif Sounds like Zeppelin with a little less shrieking. And if you're bringing Clarkson into this, he has mentioned repeatedly that The Who is his favorite band, so he wouldn't help your argument much images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

Seriously, let's lay off the music debate in this thread; if you want to take it into another thread, go for it, but I'm not gonna join in; I like music as much as the next person, but not enough to get into heated discussions about it.

WEAK HOOKS? Pink floyd isnt another corporate band designed to pump out single after single after catchy single. You dont dance to pink floyd, you sit there with a ridiculous sound system and absorb it. They play epic-ly good music on the scale of the great classical composers of old.

"Hook" my ass, the average idiot can go listen to some my chemical romance or beatles or other such pop-radio garbage, i'll be actually using my brain.

(The who, not so much. They touched on greatness a few times, but "sold out" to the singles crowd.... see what i did there? hahaaahahahhahahahahahahha *gunshot*)

Jeremy deserves to be knighted, based solely on how he stands up for Britain in general. Without him there are British car companies that I'd have never heard of. And his work in other shows like Greatest Inventions has been outstanding. Mind you... James May deserves it too, so who gets it first?

BTW, Hitler may not have ever been knighted - but he was Time Magazine's Man Of The Year. (So was Mussolini.)
