I wanted this option: I have driven one, and I don't think they are as bad as Top Gear says.

I actually own a Pacific Rim car... in malaysia ppl mostly don't have a choice... I drive a Proton Perdana... taxes on imported cars are very high. The company that I work for gave me this car and I didn't have any other choice... TBH... it is not as bad as JC puts it but compared to japanese cars.... its a POS... my car is 2 years old with only 70k KM on it and parts of the dashboard has come apart so I keep hearing stuff banging on each other... one of my bulbs for the speedometer and rpm meter area fused and the rear trunk latch doesn't know how to to lock the trunk tight... sometimes it just springs back out... great car innit.
I'm 100% sure that Zyran would agree with me that all malaysian cars are POS... btw if you think Korean cars are bad... malaysian cars are about 10times worst

Tried it, but didn't work to edit the poll. Oh well. Doesn't matter really.

I've only been in three Pacific Rim cars. Two sucked really bad, and one was a Hyundai worth $35,000 that was very fast. The two that sucked felt like I was driving rollerskates. No power. They wobbled and leaned as they went down the road. Horrible cars, but "you get what you pay for."

Clarkson's extreme opinions are what makes him fun to watch.

you can really tell the difference if you only use it to get to point a to point b, which they are used for. Moreover i see them as budget cars and people who dont have much feelings for cars so like elderies and mothers?

yeah so personally if i was on a tight budget jsut need a car to work, i might get one u know. as long as the MPG is good as well. if not...then i just take the bus

Buy a used Honda instead. Even with 200,000 miles they are better than pacific Rim cars.

I agree. Used Honda or Toyota will get you from A to B if that's what you want

I drove a Kia once. Amazing what a wide array of sounds plastic can produce. The engine made a good noise in the higher revs though, but that's about it.

So another looney went into a dealer and bought the car, drove it slowly for a couple of hundred km's, and then lost a couple of thousand € for you.

Whats the problem?

I just think it is really funny people are concerned about stuff like this...
Most people simply know, that there are better cars. They just don't care and don't wanna spend more money...

The article itself says basically, those blokes pull jokes like that all the time but the manufacturers got it all wrong somehow

malaysian cars are unbelievably bad that even people who are not into cars hate them so much and find them really crap... I drive the top of the line Proton and when I hit about 140-150kph @ 4000rpm... the car sounds like it is going to fall apart any minute...

My ex GF had a Hyundai Accent 1.5 mpi GLSI. I only can say one thing abut the car, and the two times i drove it:

Hopeless

Advise to the Pac Rim car makers: Stop that and develop more microwawes and washing machines please

good point... pacific rim car makers are so rich because of government subsidy and government protection... Proton sells about 300k cars every year in malaysia alone... this is because the government is protecting them by making import duty tax on foreign cars very high and therefore lower and middle class ppl have to buy these POS. The government also required all police and governemt officials to use proton as their company car... so highway patrols used to be Volvo 850 T-5 are now souped up Protons... I'm not bragging or anything but if I had the guts... I could easily outrun the highway patrols over here images/smilies/twisted.gif
