Default "Motorweek" is on TV

(If you've never seen it, find it on youtube or something)

And this is what you guys want topgear to be? Just a bunch of boring road-tests?

Motorweek is a good show... since it's funded by public broadcasting I expect they don't want to offend anyone, hence the boring reviews.
I have MCE set to record the show, watch it and delete it. Not worth keeping...

You do know Top Gear is funded by public broadcasting?

One of the upsides to that system is, there are no sponsors to piss off... so you can say what you want.

Example: Motoring program A has a juicy advertising contract with GM, and are getting loads and loads of money. If they really lay into a new car and cause it to lose sales, GM might think "why should i keep funding these people, they lost me millions!", and pull out on the deal, sending the show under.

Car and Driver used to have their own tv show, not sure if they still do though. It wasn't all that bad, but the guy who narrated the show had an irritating voice and style.

I don't think anyone has ever wanted it to be like motorweek. Even when they still did "just tests" they did it in a far more entertaining way.

Motorweek is written by and for people who just need a car. Not for people who WANT a car, the enthusiasts who like cars for how they drive, or how they work. They've always sounded like they were that extremely nervous kid in school who was forced by the teacher to give an oral report on "The mating habits of the Canadian otter."

The biggest difference (and what makes TG special) is, that on Motorweek, presenter talks about the car, on TG, presenters talk about what they think about the car & how it makes them feel.

They actually know and care about their subject. They write their own stuff too. Great sense of humour and a good bunch of 'mates'. It shows.

I want TopGear to be like it was in earlier seasons (series'). If you really think it was "boring" when Clarkson took over... then oh well. It's a car show. I don't want it to turn into Pimp My Ride, or something equally idiotic.

Motorweek is pretty much what old old Top Gear series used to be like, with slightly less personality.

I was watching some of the 1997-98 eps, and Jeremy's reviews are great! Even better than now!

But I have to say, everyone else is a bit dull. But I like Quentin.

the time Jeremy joined was when the show started to turn around, but even in his early years, he was a mildy bright spot in an otherwise bland truly pokey british motoring show.

Wow Motorweek really is boring. But it's very obvious why.

a) The host is just reading the specifications list off the car manual, and this goes on forever

b) The cars are not very well filmed. Quite frankly seeing a car pull off the line on a straight and plain road is just very boring. These shots are shown repeatedly while he continues rambling.

c) You never see him driving the car, and never really see anybody driving the car (the test driver doing 0-100 doesn't count!). You feel that he doesn't know the car, he is just telling you statistics.

d) His voice, due to the incessant reading, is very boring. It reminded me of Need For Speed and similar racing games, when you click on the car you would like to select to race, and a voice tells you all kinds of statistics about the car. Nice for a very short time, but hardly worth evening entertainment.

e) He doesn't give his own opinion even once. And he never suggests that something could be added or changed. It is like reading an encyclopaedia...very scientific, to the point, but not what you want to read while on the bog (sounds like something Clarkson would say images/smilies/tongue.gif )

And I am sure that nobody wants Top Gear to be anything like that!!! People just want more of Top Gear's AMAZING style reviews, filled with passion and insight and opinions.

The problem is that Motorweek likes everything! This show has not once dissed a car. I stopped watching it when my wife, yes my wife made a comment to that effect. She is completely disinterested in cars and most things automotive and she could see it. At that point, I realized I was wasting my time and never saw another episode.

I hate motorweek, car and driver TV and the lot...the info is okay. But it looks like it was produced by someone with no personality at all. The production, how top gear is shot is alot of the reason I like it. Plus, for me anyway, if I needed the interior specs on a new (insert car model name) I'd just look it up on the net. I care less about normal cars, since if I really wanted I could probably just go drive one. Something like a lambo, ferrari, those aren't cars I'll own, and more than likely I won't ever even drive one.

My god that is dull.

I realise people who want to buy a car may find this show useful, but that doesn't mean that this show can't be fun, and that the 'reviewers' can't actually REVIEW the car.

Give me a crew and i'll come up with a much better product! images/smilies/tongue.gif

unfortunately most US auto magazine shows have that kind of cheap, dull feel to it, never really giving a passionate opinion on anything and keeping everything bland and neutral in their car reviews. i dont think any of those producers could even imagine making a show with the production levels similar to that of TG

The sad thing about the US magazines (and their shows) is they all are written in a way that doesn't speak to harshly of any car. They no longer just "hate this car" it's "well this part isn't up to everyone else's standards but it works images/smilies/dunno.gif " then struggle to find something good about the car before they politely whine abut something else.
