Default NEW DVD from JC!!!! The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/PROD/3-/...n/Product.html

This year, Clarkson has gone way out west to the United States of America to find out if there really is a decent American car! Watch the wagons roll as Clarkson has a show-down between some of the top American cars with some of the top UK and European cars!

There's more action and explosions than ever before - but this time from the dirt-tracks and mountains of California!

Sweet! Although I hope he can get into the American attitude of motoring and leave his European prejudices at home. I know we have been plauged with poor build quality in this country, but we also have a different motoring history and heritage which results in different kinds of cars.

Is anyone going to offer this one? I don't have a multi-region DVD player. images/smilies/sad.gif Bloody greedy media companies carving up the world market!

This makes sense.... In this thread there is a link to some S2000 board where a kid got a photo with JC. The kid said he saw a bunch of guys with cameras filming somthing and when he asked them, they said "A DVD"

May be able to get a handset Hack, put your model number into Google and have a search around. Next DVD player you buy do this ahead of time with your short list and you are likely to find one. Sony and Pioneer DVDs are usually pretty well locked down though. Chinese makes are usually better. I would not buy a non region free DVD myself, most Europeans are like that I think. As well as Region 1 and 2 I also have some Aussie Region 4 stuff, they all play fine on all my players.

Yeah, I have a Sony, that's the problem. It was a gift though, so I can't really complain. I can always put it on my computer and re-encode it region-free, but if I buy a DVD I should be able to play it out of the box without re-encoding and compressing it. There is always the risk that a particular DVD does not agree with my system and won't process it.

I had this problem when I wanted to buy the original "Gone in 60 Seconds" DVD, it was only out in the UK; I had to wait 6 months or so before it came out with the remake as a box set in the US.

Not only do you want a multi region dvd player, but you need to get one that can do PAL conversion because most UK dvd's are in PAL. A PAL dvd will not work on a NTSC dvd player no matter what region the disc or player is, so the PAL-NTSC conversion is a must.

these players can be bought prety cheaply. Although some of the cheap ones might not have that great image quality. This is a very good one for the price:

Excellent, 90 minutes of him making fun of American cars and calling us fat, stupid, inbred morons. images/smilies/unsure.gif

I'd still watch it anyway. images/smilies/biggrin.gif I hope he blows up a Buick LeSabre, that would rock.

Plan B have a multi standard TV - mine is PAL, NTSC and SECAM. You chaps probably don't get the option (in North America) I would have thought - no call for it.

Plan C go digital by passing the analogue signal processing and straight into the HD input from a HD capable DVD - Robert will be you father's brother! Might cost a bit though. images/smilies/mellow.gif

We've been using multi-system TV's since I can remember what a TV was. Same with DVD players.

Thanks for the info, can't wait for the DVD images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Never had a problem, I think that the digital information from the disc is transcoded through a processor and a signal of the appropriate type is delivered. I have a DVD with switchable outputs, this means that I can get a NTSC or PAL signal out no matter what DVD I insert. Most of my DVD players only out put PAL and I have put in NTSC discs in PAL only out DVD players and get an excellent result. You may be corrrect however as there may be stuff going on behind the scenes that I am unaware of.

This site I have found useful in the past:

I just hope he chooses cars worth watching. I mean, if he plans on bashing SUV's and Minivans because they can't corner, I'll probably be asleep by the end of the DVD. If he can gets his hands on the new GT500, Saleen S7TT, XLR-V, STS-V, Chrysler 300C SRT-8, etc. Then it may be worth staying awake for.
