Got the DVD from amazon.co.uk last night... Not as action packed as older Clarkson vids. Here are my initial thoughts.

- Z06 review that kicks off the DVD is virtually identical to the Top Gear review. Jerermy couldn't even be bothered to change any punctuation marks in the script.
- Still complained the Z06 doesn't work on the street. Having driven a Z06 and the Ford GT he worships back to back, he is completely insane. The GT is completely impractial on the street -- way too tight steering, way too stiffly sprung, wandering rear end, German pillbox visibility. I'm starting to think Jeremy had his opinions fed to him and can't put an ounce of critical thought into what he's saying.
- Racing a Land Rover against a Cadillac Escalade and Hummer H2 in an offroading test? WTF? Jeremy, you don't take a bling-mobile on 22s for its offroad capability. Let's make it fair and throw a Wrangler Rubicon and Grand Cherokee against that Land Rover next time.
- I think Jeremy nailed it on the head about America's disposable culture and how that shows up in the poor car design. He's right, they're designed to be replaced. Planned obsolescence. But it's part of how America works -- creative destruction, destroying the old to make way for the new. Take New York city and its landscape and architecture, the city constantly reinvents itself and very few artifacts remain of prior iterations (Brooklyn Bridge, brownstone apartments, etc). A very interesting observation I want to explore further. Also, FWIW, he notes America's lack of sense of time compared to Europe, which I agree with; however, using Vegas as a starting point (est 1971) isn't quite the same as the older cities on the East Coast that are at least hundreds of years old.

More later...

I don't see why people are complaining about the Range Rover test. Thats's our "Bling-mobile" over here so its a fair test. If you wanted to use Jeeps then you would have to use a Land Rover which again would be a foregone conclusion.

Every time I look on a music channel, and see a black rapper, there's a Range Rover. Not all times, but quite often.

And to be honest, if you're thinking of the H1, the H1 does not work on the road, while the Range Rover DOES.

And to be honest, he could had gone up the hill in a Defender, and he still would've won.

Not to forget, the Defender would get home afterwards, while the H2 probably wouldn't. images/smilies/tease.gif

just in my humble opinion this has to be the best Clarkson DVD todate

the new music helps alot hehe, as well as the fact that i can relate to it since its in america, even if im here in Michigan,

yes their was some weird loopholes, but they were forgivable, the first mustang test, clarkson says hes driving a GT with a 4.6 V8, but thats deffenetly a V6 model, as tons of my neighbors have various mustangs its pretty easy, and uncontestable

it doesnt annoy me that he used a V6 for the test, it annoys me that he blatently lied about it, but for entertainment purposes it doesnt really matter so im still happy 8)

i suppose i should be so lucky as to know i live pretty close to the guy who owns the GTX1, the car people are the one thing that makes Michigan livable, as our economy is currently blue in the face
