And lets all remember that if you go (and actually survive) we all want to see lots and lots of pictures.

I'm thinking of heading there with the Bentley when I go for the road trip I'm planning at the end of the year. I'm sure I'll push it a little...but I have no delusions about my driving skill. I'd prefer to be alive then another Ring fatality.

Funny i was just finishing up an article before i came here written by a guy who had done 500 laps in the playstation version of the Nurburgring and then, in the exact same car(350Z), took it out to the ring for real. He was a full two minutes slower and this is an automotive journalist, he drives cars for a living he kind of knows what hes doing. He had an interview with an experienced ring driver (he'd done i believe 15,000 laps) that had showed him around the track before he had a go and he said he'd played GT4 and it was pretty realistic except for a few of the elevation changes; Good for finding your line.

If u go dont go gettin urself killed what would we do without Top Gear Girl.
And, if you DO wreck that Porsche or BMW or whatever you drive...can you take the hood ornament off and sent it to me? im starting a little collection images/smilies/lol.gif

Hmm...didn't even think of that. I may give it a miss then. Save it for a year when I'm in Europe for the summer.

Plus we'll probably be changing the Bentley for a DB9 next year. That seems like a nice car to throw around the Ring...being very, very careful of course. images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

My father's only rules are "no throwing up in the cars" and "if you damage them don't bother coming home, use them to drive as far away as possible before he finds out". images/smilies/tongue.gif

glhf tgg, I'd err on the side of caution at the ring.. especially in an unfamiliar car.

I want to take my Audi around the 'ring just one time...sure, it's slow as beans, but I'm familiar with the car, know the quirks and how to get the best out of the engine, so I think I could do a lot better than I did in that Primera I took around the 'ring a few months back...images/smilies/lol.gif

Man, those Ferrari and Porsche drivers hated me.

The more powerful your car is .. the nastier (potentially) the surprises get. If you normally drive a Corsa , but hire a Porsche around the ring...I'm not sure how the person will cope with all that power ....
In a place like the Ring , second chances are hard to come buy images/smilies/unsure.gif

I'm a Kart racer myself..I remember a small incident a year ago ... We were used to a 30bhp kart (custom biult) and we got quite confident with it.. The club were we used to race got a couple of imported Yamaha Karts from Japan with 100bhp engines !! with a top whack of 120kph in the straights... u have no idea what it feels like to hit 100 when you are sitting so close to the ground...Shit ! we spun out in every damn corner and took quite a few laps to actually get the grip of it images/smilies/lol.gif

I beat it easily (thus proving I am far superior to both JC and Sabine). I only hit the walls doing 150km/h a couple of times...I'm sure this won't happen in real life.
GT4 laptimes are far faster than real ones.

Thank you for that FlyingFridge...it was sarcasm. Thus the comments about hitting the walls. images/smilies/tongue.gif

I have admitted that I am by no means the best driver in the world. I'm okay, I've done courses etc., but I'm not insane enough to try and break any records, especially not on the 'ring.

I'm sure when I drive around it I'll think I'm buring the hell out of it, but compared to the hardcore drivers I'll be a snail....and I think that is the way it should be.

Yes I can smoke people at the lights, but that is more because of what I'm driving then any skill on my part. 8)

2) Sorry to say this, but it's people like you who ruin it for everyone else. You obviously have no respect for the Ring, nor for the Autobahn.

I'm not trying to flame you, but I saw a lot of people like you on the Ring and they're a hazard to themselfs and the other drivers. If you're a speedfreak, go to an oval or something, but don't get your fix at the Ring or the Autobahn. There's so much more involved then just speed. The Nordschleife is nothing like any other circuit. NOTHING. You will be suprised (and not in a good way).
Listen to what the others say, don't just go there to drive fast, bc you will get hurt or worse.

Greetz Johan
Freerider I couldn't agree more, I've been to the 'ring several times with other people who have driven it, including some pretty experienced rally drivers and even they didn't push it, I didn't drive because there was so much traffic on there I didn't really see the point.

The thing you forget TopGearGirl is that Jeremy and Richard have been driving for a lot longer than you and have also undoubtedly had professional training. My suggestion would be to go have a 'quick' drive round but don't risk it. Frankly it's not worth it.

It's a notorious place and not one to be taken lightly.

My god Freerider you have me as your avatar images/smilies/wink.gif

Well if you like that then there is my mother's rule. (She pretty much only has one)

"You can bring any girl you like home for the night, because I trust your judgement...but no strippers".

I don't really know why, but just no strippers. images/smilies/wacko.gif

I have been there in the Scuderia Hanseat driving course last september. In a new 997. And it was absolutely amasing - Im definately going back! But don't for one secong think you're gonna be fast down there right away - you have no idea what kind of a beast it is. Its actually called "The Green Hell" and that's just what it is. Dont go there and push -

you
will
crash.

OT, I had pink hair 3 years ago, then it was lilac, last year it was scarlet. This year I've grown up and am the epitome of the corporate beast. images/smilies/sad.gif

TGG, seriously, listen to these people. Like anyone with a fondness for petrol drinking machines I like the idea of a whizz round the ring, but having read posts from people who have either been there or just know better than me, I won't be going. Or if I do go, I'd be driven round by a professional and I don't think there's any shame in that.

I get your drive free or die thing, but when talking about slaying the 'ring like that you might as well change your username from Top Gear Girl to Suicide Blonde.

Well yea, but being a passenger just isn't the same...unless it was The Stig driving. I suppose I'll get it out of my system on the autobhans on the way then, see someone whos crashed like Clarkson did at the ring and think, oh ok I'll just sit in the M5 with Sabine and let her drive. It's a bit like a helicopter trail lesson I had, in part of it they give you control of the helicopter. When I took control I was all to aware that one flick of the joystick the wrong way and we were dead. Still the worst part was giving control back to the instructor. Even though I couldn't land once I had had control it was odd giving back and up until then I felt safe only nervous giving away the conrol. Odd I know.
