Default oh my, watch the first TG (new style)

then watch the latest one.

jason dawe aside note, the style and type of reviews. then notice the crowd. or lack there of. JC walks freely round the studio dressed much the same as he does now and the studio is full of sensible cars like the berlingo, focus and golf lol

my how its changed, yet its still refreshingly entertaining in either guise.

The lighting in the very first episode is pretty bright too, so it gives the place more of a warehouse feel. Show 2 of Series 1 looks a lot more like the present.

I think that there's a difference because in the beginning Top Gear used to be ordinaryl car show. In first episode JC reviewed Berlingo. With every series TG was becoming more crazy. Nobody wants to watch Berlingo nowadays, but I think that majority dont want to watch tractors and space rockets in every episode too. Give us more cars!

I disagree and agree on the respective points.

Sure, the Berlingo is a pretty lame car, but the review is still entertaining because of the reviewer.

And I agree: give us more cars! images/smilies/smile.gif

It's quite funny actually in the first series, especially in the bits with Jason Dawe doing the 'Insider Deals' bit that even James did for a while, you can see that the audience couldn't give a sh*t what's actually going on in the show. They're talking amongst themselves lol. Now they're staring at the action and clapping every 2 seconds lol

As for the content, jesus look at 1x10, the segment where Jason talks about second hand cars which you can get for £100. There's a whole segment saying how old Vauxhall Astras and Nissan Primeras are great cars, i mean wtf this is NOT Top Gear lol.

People think Top Gear is going downhill, look at those 2002 episodes lol

They wanted to make some useful advices to people looking for good second-hand car.
I think it didn't work out, because it's greater to see Lambos and Ferraris. What's more Jason comparing to JC and RH was.... images/smilies/smile.gif

I agree that Jezza is able to make even Skoda Fabia review entertainig - especially if he destroyed it! images/smilies/smile.gif

Well when the new format show debuted, the studio was a museum/testament to cars in general, fast and slow

now fast forward up to the eigth series and the studio is now more a testament/monument to itself, kind of like a Top Gear Hall of Fame.

The Berlingo was a new idea back then, and was worthy of testing. But now there's hundreds of clones. The Roomster is quite inventive though, I would like to see a test.

I'm all for supercars, but there's tons of exciting new affordable stuff coming out. Let's see it tested.

Normal car can be tested in every "normal" program. if you want normal test and normal car reviewed buy a motor magazine. Top Gear is special, entertaining and funny. I like to see tractors and rebuilding a road (this is not the end, this is not the beginning, this is not the beginning of the end HAHAHAHAH I almost died when JC said this).

Ha what a co-incidence, I just downloaded and watched the first episode myself!!! Maybe that's why it was so quick, what with everybody else wanting a taste of nostalgia!

Yeah, Jason was a bit strange. Jeremy sort of palms off his news in the middle to Jason, who then says "You can get this car for XYZ pounds blah blah blah" and then Jeremy continues and it is as if nothing had happened since he stopped talking!!! I mean, Jeremy could just as easily have said what Jason did!

I did enjoy the episode though, but the newer episodes are much better. Challenges like the amphibious cars, and when they went around on scooters and picked up drunk people and drove them home in their own cars were classic!

I'm now waiting for a challenge where each of them has to be a taxi driver for the day, choose a car for 10 000 pounds or less and a series of challenges, including of course who racks up the most money in the day from passengers!

Yes the first ep and indeed most of series 1 seems soooo different but after they kicked off Jason Dawe and brought James May in, there really isn't too much difference between it and the last season before the new studio came into place (season 8 or whatever it was).

I like the old days. Yes the in studio bits were still scripted like they are today, BUT, it seemed more real and that in turn made it more funny when there are jokes and such. Now it seems way too planned, clinical and errrr scripted.
