Hi !
When last we downloaded new Top Gear episodes, the file format changed every week (for a variety of reasonable reasons). Does anyone know what file format is going to be used for the new episodes (video and audio) ? |

The video will still be XviD and the audio will still be MP3.

That's good - but what rate audio ?
Previously, some of us wanted a little better sound, since higher rate audio only adds 1% to the file size. |

It will probably the same bit rate as the one for the recent Fifth Gear eps...which I don't know off hand, soz. It will be stereo a better overall experience, I think he keep that quality audio when we had that discussion about that you mention above... so, yeah

The early one's are WMV, then we moved to DivX for a short while, now XviD is the current video codec used.

Divx isn't opensourced so either you pay to use it to encode.
Or you get that ugly watermark in the video. Xvid offers around the same quality as Divx anyway. |

Yeah expect it to be the same thing as 5g, but with like twice the size since it's 2x longer

Yeah, the quality of XviD is better than that of DivX.

Hi !
I thought the consensus of opinions, back in May, was that 128k audio only takes a tiny fraction more than 92k audio and makes a significant difference in sound quality. But, I now see that the new TopGear download is 92k MP3 sound. This is even more important now, due to the features about songs ! PS In places where MP3s are torrented, nowadays no one uploads anything less than 192k and even in the old days of dialup a few years ago, 128k was the standard. |

Yes Vuk is tweaking it for the new season...last season the audio was 112 kbps for TG, I believe he's trying to get it back up there.
