Default STOP PRESS! Hamster can't even do a J-Turn?

Just watched "Top Gear - Ashes to Ashes" on the BBC's Children in Need where Hammond convinces Gene Hunt to let him "fire up the Quattro". Sadly the production values were nowhere near TG standards and there's a really appalling cut near the end that clearly shows that the guy doing the handbrake and J-turns is taller and has much shorter hair than the Hamster.

Now either Hammond can't do a J-turn or a handbrake turn (unlikely as I can do both and I don't work on TG obviously) or Health and Safety, insurance or some other issue got in the way.

One things for certain though - he can't act for toffee!!! images/smilies/lol.gif

Perhaps someone with better skills and kit than I can post relevant pics or video to illustrate my point. I could only be sure by running my Sky+ at half speed and freezing the frame.

PS If you are a UK forum member why not give Children in Need a call - 03457 332233 - and give 'em a couple of quid? I know we're all feeling the pinch right now but one pint less this weekend won't hurt will it? Sermon over and thanks on their behalf.

UKers can rewatch it here.

I know Gene Hunt ain't allowed to drive the Quattro, so I suspect H&S may have had a say.

The mini-ep thing was fun, especially since it was for charity, but since it was all in-character (and therefore set in the 80s) why the hell did they fill it in a car park full of Yarises, an XC-90 and some modern Transits? Oh, and the dirty great caravan out the back?

Good man. Obviously I'm not knocking the Hamster (apart from his acting).

Yeah his acting is shocking. images/smilies/lol.gif

I can tell you that from the stunts at MPH he can definitely do handbrake turns. Dunno about Js though. images/smilies/smile.gif

It's a while since I've seen it, and I've never looked closely to see if they're using alternative drivers, but didn't they have to do Js in the limo challenge?

Amen to that. It would need to have leather upholstery for sure. images/smilies/wink.gif

I never thought it was him in the first place. I just assumed they had a stunt driver do it. For health and safety reasons of course. But Richard can't do that precision driving stuff.

This makes the most sense. Handbrake turns are something you can figure out in ten minutes in a wet parking lot. Hammond is no professional driver, but he knows his way around a car, that's for sure.

He can, I saw him drive live at Earls Court, he executed several handbrake and one J turn! (During the football)
