Rep Power: 10 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Having just gotten a Tomtom One SatNav, I couldn't help but think how great it would be to have the three TG guys as the voice on there, bickering as they directed you! James could say 'Oh cock' every time you went wrong, stuff like that. Obviously they couldn't really do this as they are BBC guys and it would be supporting one product and all that, but it's a fun idea anyway! |

| VIP | Is there an open platform for creating Tom Tom voices? Can you add your own or do you have to have TomTom approved ones? If you can add your own it might be possible to create something with some clever editing of audio from the past 11 series of Top Gear + the three presenters own shows. Or you could suggest it to BBC Worldwide/Top Gear - they seem to be looking for any excuse to make a bit of extra cash ![]() |

| VIP | I've looked into it and actually it would be fairly straight forward (although time consuming) to create a TG TomTom voice BUT it would also be pretty legally dubious as 1) the team own the copyright to their own voices, 2) the BBC owns the copyright to Top Gear and 3) it's something the BBC could make money from if they did it themselves and the fact that they haven't probably means that at least one of the three doesn't want to. |

| Entering the highway, Jeremy's voice: "Powerrrrrr!" One could actually use his voice from the episode with the blind man driving round the track. Great idea actually, i have a TomTom myself, that would really be some fun. | |

| VIP | Well if somebody wants to do it it's pretty simple - there are 56 audio clips needed for the full TomTom set and they need to be encoded as Ogg Vorbis and then converted into the relevant TomTom file formats. http://tomtom.graemelucas.co.uk/tomtomstep1.htm |

| VIP | OK in for a penny and all that - I'm up for creating a few of these. We would need a central place to store the audio files though if a lot of different people are going to be doing parts. |

| Maybe make a google pages for it? You get 100MB of storage, I assume that'll be enough. EDIT: I've made a google page. go to pages.google.com and enter following email: tgsatnav Password: finalnav Security question answer is: lies The upload area is to the right. If this turns out to not be good enough then no big deal. The e-mail account tied to this page is tgsatnav@gmail.com, where we can all post up stuff in google documents, such as a list of who's doing what. I'm at work now so this is all I can do for a while. Hope this is helpful.

| VIP | One line Ogg files are gonna be about 50-100k each at most so yeah that would do the job - as long as it isn't against their terms and conditions. If you're going to record any audio make sure you set the project rate to 22,050Hz and record in mono. Last edited by upyourego; June 25th, 2008 at 03:50 PM.. |
