Default Top Gear in Australia

Hi ya,

In Australia top gear is aired on SBS, however the shows are cut in such a bad way they are hard to view. SBS has said that the BBC does the editing. I am just wondering if this is the case in all countries, outside the UK or is SBS just finding a reason to blame the BBC for there crap ways.

Thanks very much and hope to hear from you soon.

I believe that is true. Top Gear was here in america for a while, edited for the american audience by the BBC. It was rather awful.

I found the same problem too. I think its due to SBS introducing commercials. Last season they didnt have commercials and the show went for a full hour (like it should). But now with commercials the shows ends faster.

Anouther brother from down under! images/smilies/biggrin.gif SBS (Sex Before Soccer) are crap because they show OLD eps and yeah theydo edit it fair bad. i was on a plain the other day and they had one of the crap edit episodes up and it was just stupid. I don't even bother to watch it on SBS anymore i just go back on the computer and look at old episode, just download VUK's rips.

They also change the music, due to licensing rights.. I was watching the ferrari vs aston martin thing they did and was sure the song was wrong for the segment.. Flipped over to my UK edition on the xbox and sure enough it was.

The episodes work so well with their original music, it makes them hard to watch with the replacements (or maybe it's just what I'm used to).

Why do you want to watch edited SBS TG when you can download hot steaming fresh high quality 425mb rips ripped by VUK and uploaded by Viper on this very site ?

well they do take forever to download. im lucky i had a mate download S3-S8 for me. now he's going to drop round S1.
I watched the ep last night S7 EP2 and had my copy going at the same time to see what was cut out. the news was halved and the grand prix car story was cut.

Because SBS's digital feed is better quality on a big screen than a downloaded rip? I tend to stick to the 700 mb scene rips anyway, but you have a valid point images/smilies/smile.gif I rarely watch the SBS version, which is a shame as it should be supported (edited TG is better than no TG, and everybody should have the chance to watch the show)

Yeah i watched sbs top gear on monday night as well just coz i had nothing else to do, and thought what the hell?? where is the news?? they were missing huge chucks of episodes which really sucks.

I then went onto there forum (SBS has its own top gear forum http://topgear.sbs.com.au/) and yeah some of the stuff people are saying is just useless, can find out the answers by googling.

I thought about spamming i mean subtly suggesting that if people wanted the full episodes they should come to finalgear.com to get the full episodes, but didn't really want heaps of newbs.
It would make us Aussies looks bad, but CSL does a pretty god job of that already images/smilies/tongue.gif hahah

SBS have never shown the full hour, they have also have the same amount of commercials as they did last year, but instead of showing them after Top Gear, they are now shown during Top Gear.

(And a big hello to everyone, I have been reading the forums for a while, I can't download the full episodes though, I'm stuck on dialup images/smilies/sad.gif which means I have to watch it on SBS)

I haven't watched Top Gear on SBS for a while now. The last time I did, it was almost an hour long but they only cut the News segment (yes I know thats quite a loss), so what have they cut now??

They randomly cut segments I guess. Last night I had it on in the background and it looked like the Vanwall piece had disappeared.

We get Top Gear on Prime over here in NZ, but its been 3 or 4 years since I last saw it on TV. I will make an effort to watch it next Sunday and see if they do cut any of it. The only bits I don't remember watching are the Restoration Rip-Off and Top 5 Driving Songs...although that might have just been channel flicking images/smilies/tongue.gif

Its a bit sad that they cut it, the show is much better as a whole.

Ok I lied...Prime's stopped showing Top Gear without me knowing images/smilies/mad.gif

Will have to wait until they start showing the new season before getting an answer to that one!

Not true. Back before SBS put in the different type of commercials, TG on SBS went for 40 minutes like it is now.

In these edited versions, they cut out most of the commercial music, cut down the news, and as I noticed last night, one of the smaller reviews. (07x02 last night, got rid of the Vanwall review)
