Top Gear presenter taken too seriously (again)

A spokesman for the BBC insisted that the comments were made "in jest".

"The Top Gear team's irreverent sense of humour is familiar to the regular audience," he said. "The comment was not to be taken seriously."

"My sons watch Top Gear and I am appalled that he would talk about lighting up joints like this.

"I would expect the BBC to get a full apology out of him. Otherwise they are condoning what he did and treating it as a joke."

A BBC spokesman said the comment was meant "in jest". He added: "The Top Gear team's irreverent sense of humour is familiar to the regular audience. The comment was not to be taken seriously."
