Default Top Gear to axe train stunt (shown in next ep)

in the dailyExpresstoday

corporation execs were in talks about whether or not to scrap the public service video involving the train crash after a teenager was killed at a level crossing (features is a 70mph smash into a car on a crossing) yesterday near invergordon in the scottish highlands.

a quick skim seems to imply that the feature does have a valid safety message, but with TG's usual light hearted tone and that this week may really not be appropriate to screen it.

all i say is ...... people who dont or wont like it..... dont watch.

Oh for the love of god!

A lot of people are killed by trains, one lad was killed just last week at my local station. Even if Jezza jokes a bit, surely the sight of a mangled espace would put people off from trying to skip the lights.

Yet again, the PC bridage want to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. F**k em!

If they only delay airing it that would be fine. With TG's normal joking manner about their stunts, perhaps it is merely their way of being polite.

this has to be some kind of record? the complaints in before the show is even aired? lol!

this feature was done with network rail. it was part of a 3million quid safety campaign....if anything now is the time to show it. i dont think network rail will be too happy that it wont be shown....afterall they paid for it.

i mean really this is just one incident.

to all the people who know and are related to the people who were killed, well im sorry for your loss, and id imagine you have more pressing matters on sunday night than watching topgear with the bbc complaints dept on speed dial.

I hope it does still air, as I've seen the film and you have to remember Jeremy's organised it, so expect his angle on it. There isn't anything within the film which would make it unsuitable for airing. It's an unfortunate fact of life that people do die all the time, and yet TV schedules carry on regardless, unaware.

No change on the official site, I think it'll air.

Screw the Daily Mail anyway, they don't know shit about anything.

If anything, doesn't showing a public service video to describe, analyze and help avoid such accidents in the future be encouraged because of this accident? I mean, duh... images/smilies/blink.gif

if this is the case they better stop showing car test footage where a car crashes into a wall or into another car... i mean people die every day when a car crashes, so it's insensitive for the top gear guys to even start a motor....

While we are at this... was the accident in scotland a suicide or an accident?
Over here suicides get zero attention and I mean zero attention in the media, nobody speaks about it. In '05 I stood at full train station during rush hour and someone jumped in front of the train inside the fucking station, maybe 15m away from me and there was nothing in the media. The station was half closed for 3h and I couldn't get home. So in essence if it was a suicide they have to continue, you may never bow down to such idiots. And if it wasn't a suicide you always air this as a public information video to insure that this won't happen again. images/smilies/wink.gif

It was seemingly an accident, I don't think all the blokes in the car were suicidal...

Much more reason to air it then. You have to prevent such things in future.

i agree 100% if not for entertainment purposes, public awareness should be enough reason to put something like that on television to scare people away from stopping on tracks or trying to beat a train.

Exactly. Like I said before, even if JC makes a few jokes (which he will) then surely seeing a Renault Espace, a car designed for saftey, still be completely destroyed by a train be enough to persuade you to not skip the lights.

I'll be a sad day for common sense if it doesn't air.

i think theirs a figure of something like 1 person everyday at a coal plant dies from train incidents in america, i think we learned that when our teacher was giving arguments for nuclear power (she was a nuclear physicist!)

i don't know exactly the point hajj was trying to make, but i'll agree that suicides are much sadder than accidents

Interesting decision, it would be kind of traumatic for the family to see such a reminder. I don't think they did it out of respect for the guys family but just to prevent an outcry.

Political correctness isn't always a bad thing, it's really annoying when its taken too far.
