I did not realise that Hulu was blocking people from outside the US. Death to all who oppose the free flow of information.

To quote The Mentor:

'This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.'

Many countries across Europe pay to have BBC on their cable and I'm sure a few people pay to have BBC America, not mention all the people who pay for TV stations that buy BBC content.

Not sure that is true - they pick up the signal by DXing terrestial and Satellite signals and then distribute it and charge their Customers to view it. BBC does not get any revenue. Unless someone can show me that this has changed.

For instance. ...

The fee is only to attach to the SKY network and the subscription channels that are also subscription (i.e. the same) in the UK.

I never knew Hulu was restricted to the US. I assume it has to do with the advertisers that keep Hulu alive. They probably have to pay so much for the amount of bandwidth the site consumes, so opening the site world-wide would increase the advertising costs, which would probably drive away the advertisers. Which would kill the site.

As for the BBC restricting the special online content of TopGear to only those in the UK, unfortunately they can do whatever they wish. I just think it's semi-hypocritical to allow anyone outside the UK to view the site at all, if they're only going to restrict the good stuff. You can view all sorts of BBC content if you're outside the UK, just not certain things apparently. The world wide fan base for TopGear is what's accelerating it's ratings and resulting in Australian and American versions, which will of course pay copyright fees back the BBC, regardless of what stations that are producing the shows.

Just seems like a slap in the face and a greedy move by the BBC. Most of the content on Hulu can be purchased or otherwise acquired by other means.

The problem is that there is so many people outsided the uk that watch topgear that its not a smart idea to only provide videos for their country. But im sure it has something to do with the network not the show.

I was told by a Brit (and I am not anywhere near sure this is correct) that 'they' ride around in vans checking for a television signal and if 'they' find a signal coming from an address that has not registered & paid the license 'they' send a hefty bill with possible court action.

Again I am not sure this is correct for many reasons or even sure who 'they' are, but it is some sort of explanation.

Perhaps our license fee payers would kindly elaborate.

I think it is funny that you are bitching on a forum started by a Top Gear fan from the USA. images/smilies/blink.gifimages/smilies/lol.gifimages/smilies/lol.gifimages/smilies/lol.gif

Everyone else has already tried to reason with you, so I am just going to ask you the be quiet. Several of us have asked the BBC directly if there was a way for us to solve this issue and most were just ignored. Those who weren't were either just told no or handed cease and desist orders, so here we are doing what we can to get the show we all want to see.

I thought the TV detection thing was a load, who knew it was real! I wonder if it would detect a US plasma brought into the country as they are required to conform to different standards.

I am not convinced the detectors are real but they can come and knock on the door of people without a licence and ask to search it. and if you say no they can get the police to come along with a warrant. They also will send out threatening letters every month or so to everyone without a licence regardless of whether you have a tv or not.
