Respectively. In my area on the East coast it's 55-65, but in the mid-west it is 75. D-Fence, speed limits in the US are all in relation to distance from populated areas.

I heard that the parts of the autobahn that were located in East Germany were in pretty rough shape when the west and east were put back together. Is the eastern part of the autobahn still rough?

That's a bit OT and no, it is not. A larger part of the 1.500.000.000.000€ we spent so far to rebuild the Eastern part went into the roads.

And to TG USA: I suppose it will be on the edge between very bad and fifth gear-bad - but we'll see.

Nobody with the exception of old people actually drives the speed limit. And in most places it is not 55mph. On the highways and freeways it is usually 70mph-90mph.

The interstate agreement seems to be 65 mph as a base, though you see the occasional higher limit like 75 (not sure I've ever seen 90, where is that?). I drive between NJ and PA every day, and I guarantee you the slowest person on the road is rarely doing anything below 70. Doing 65 will get you killed. Still I wish we had a special lane for fast drivers.

I can´t really tell, never went to the Eastern part of germany, normally I travel in the West or to the south, the roads are quite good....

when driving in the netherlands for example i get REAAAAALLY bored by doing only 100-120km/h, this really makes me sleepy

Each state has its own limit. Here in Alabama the speed limit on the interstates is 70mph except in the larger cities, Birmingham, Mobile, etc.; there it's 55, but it gets slower gradually. 70 to 65 to 60 to 55. As for Top Gear America, it will probably be like Discovery's cut UK versions: dissappointing to fans of the UK show, but better that anything like on television over here.
