Default What does anarack mean?

I've heard Jeremy use the word anarack a on the show a few times (normally referring to audience members) and I have no idea what it means! I'm guessing it's some sort of British colloquialism, because I've never heard of the word before. Any ideas? images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

It's 'anorak'! An anorak is a waterproof jacket (like a ski-ing jacket, but not trendy) that is often worn by people doing what many people think are un-cool, nerdy hobbies like train-spotting or bird-watching.

'Anorak' has become British slang for people who are a bit obsessed by their hobbies and a bit nerdy and could do with getting a life... images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I think Anarack is a city in Iran too, maybe Jezza is referring to that? Who knows?

you mean the word: "hanorack" ? (sp?)
yes, that's the sens that he is using in his videos, and as cath says it's a sort of jacket that is usually associated with a nerdy personality, although not necessarily.

In Flemish (dutch) dialect, an anorak is a waterproof jacket.

According to the Bartleby American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 'anorak' is derived from the Inuit word annoraaq meaning a jacket with a hood.

Although this might be another case of Americans claiming everything for themselves. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Well, Dutch and English are two very similar languages.

1. no-tail
a male, as opposed to a tail which would be a female.
I saw the pony tail and thought it was a tail but it turned out to be a no-tail.

well, that's almost right, except it's completely wrong

A no-tail is a female, so called because of the absense of a tail (a youngster's term for a penis).

As in:

TUBBS:
We’ve got a no-tail! We’ve got a no-tail! Can I see her now, Edward?

EDWARD:
All in good time, Tubbs. All in good time…

Well, fix it in urban dictionary, then. images/smilies/tongue.gif

I also thought the opposite, but UD said otherwise. images/smilies/wacko.gif
