I say Series 7, though I didn't watch all of it when it aired. I had watched some Top Gear before on BBC World and I just got wondered it it was available on the internet, and Series 7 was just middle of its airing.
Of course I didn't wathc it directly from BBC2, but I downloaded them as soon as they were available.

Sorry for crappy spelling, but its currently 5 AM and last time I slept it was still yesterday.

Series 5, which was the first series that SBS showed here in Australia.

The old format doesn't count. I'm talking about the current format of TG. The one that started in 2002. If you watched the old format when it aired, just vote for Series 1.

Meh! Whatever I was just pointing out that some of us have been watching Clarkson and May report on cars for longer than your list might suggest is possible.

Well, I have never seen it on BBC 2, but the first episode I saw was 5x8. The one where they have the race to verbie(sp), the bob sled/car race, the old vs new cars, and the stig in an F1 car. And it was the most exciting show I had ever seen.

I had heard Eddie Izzard was on Top Gear driving a car or something, so I went looking to see if it could be downloaded. I had never dowloaded anything and in fact was on dialup. I found it on a nova site and set about learning how to download a torrent. Got it going and it took 3 weeks to download.

I had fully intended to fast forward to the Eddie part because I had seen car shows before and did not want to see an english one, but for some reason I couldn't and had to watch the whole thing and boy am I glad I did.

I fell in love with Jeremy in that car, I loved the music they used, the news made me laugh out loud. I had no clue who/what the Stig was and actually thought it was Hammond. It was pure magic.

I had to have more, and that is how I found this site. I would pick one, download for about 3 weeks and loved the show more and more with each episode. I started hounding the phone company for DSL and I don't know if it helped, but about 6 months in to my almost daily phone calls, (and I was calling everyone, phone company, state utility people, my congressman, every person I thought might have some pull got a call or letter from me) I finally got it and all because of top gear. I had been perfectly happy with dial up until then. LOL

I caught the horribly mangled version that Discovery aired over here, then I discovered that it was quite popular, and started downloading series... 7? Six or seven, can't quite remember anymore. Been watching it ever sense.

Series 1! was sooo freaking happy to see TG back, I loved the old format but then it just went down hill, I've watched TG since I was like 7 or 8.

Maybe I'm cheating by voting series 1, as I watched BBC World versions which came a lot later and were much shorter. But those were S1 episodes images/smilies/smile.gif

I remember watching it on SBS. It was Series 6, Episode 1. Not sure whether it was a repeat or something (probably was because I first saw it either last year or the year before). I loved how Clarkson was chased by a tanker while driving in a Range Rover. I also remember the car football, the Rolls Royce in the pool, the Road Test Russian Roulette, James Nesbitt as SIARPC, then I seem to not remember what happened in the rest of the series and then I can only remember watching the Supercars in France in Series 7 and also the Radio Controlled cars and then they went onto Series 8 and then when they started Series 9/Polar Special, I fell madly in love with the show. So there's my Top Gear backstory for those who wanted to know.

Series 6 - but it may have been Series 5, can't be sure.

Edit: Dammit, just watched some Series 5 eps - it was Series 5 after all - erm, any mod feeling generous enough to change my vote?

Got hooked on it a few months before series 6 aired, and I finished all the previous episodes by the time it came on the air.

I've been watching series 1 lately... it's pure, unadulterated Top Gear. I love the fact they played car games in guest interview segments, and when they had car designers on just for a chat.

First ever episode I caught on TV was the Ferrari vs. plane race to Verbier, so the end of S5.
