Or is it because both islands, with the exception of the UK in the past 50 or so years, that society is homogeneous, thus perpetuation of the genes? I have noticed that in the UK teeth are much better than in Japan in recent years.

I am not taking the piss out of anyone in the UK, but very curious. Help me out, I am ignorant in this matter.
that's exactly what I was thinking... both Japan and UK are rich countries... yet
those people have really bad teeth... there's nothing more painful than watching
a Japanese porn actress with bad teeth go down on a guy... (maybe that's why
they use mosaic to censor the videos?)

Because they're British. Just because most Americans have their teeth whitened, doesn't mean it's normal.

A combination of two things already mentioned. Firstly, genes, most of Britain is descended from filthy poor peasantry, and I guess any genetic traits carried over (hooray for being of foreign lineage).
Secondly, people don't really go in for cosmetic dental work here as much as in Americaland. It's seen in the same light as caring about your appearance in other ways. Not manly, not cool. You've seen how Richard caught flak for supposedly having his whitened.

it's because we don't fucking care

teeth are simply a tool to grind food, they're a small part of the digestive system and NONE of that is good looking. none. just look at the end result.

if you rent to a surgeon and said "i want you to sculpt my pancreas into a recreation of the Taj Mahal" you would laugh you out of his office.

i've had braces and my teeth still aren't perfect and i don't care. i love little imperfections. american teeth scare me, teeth are a part of you and if you go and make them like everyone elses your just flicking the Vs at individuality

Ok so you expect Jeremy to get braces at 48 years old? Or have his teeth capped? No Way. We all like him for who he is.......

Just to prove a point though, 'most' (to avoid controversy) dentists run by the NHS are rubbish, at first they messed my teeth up as well as my dads, so as a result we started going to a private one 200 miles away.......and voila

No really i want to know, where are you guys getting the idea we get lots of cosmetic dental work done? The most common thing is every 6 months or a year we go to the dentist, he checks for rotting and holes in the teeth, then sends you on your way telling you you havent been flossing enough.

You make it sound like we all form giant lines outside some kind of tooth whitening emporium.

I'm only going based on what I've been told by people from there (and their surprised reaction when told that dental work isn't considered a big deal here beyond health). Anyway, you have certain types of people that consider asshole bleaching a good cosmetic investment, so I didn't exactly question the motives of people being more scrupulous about dental work over there.

Still, I conceded genetics as a first reason.

Every 6 months? I haven't been to the dentist in five years and when I did go regularly it was every two years at most.

6 months is the recommendation for a dentist visit, but many, if not most, people don't actually go that often.

I haven't been to the dentist since I got my wisdom teeth pulled, thats coming up on 3 years now. Doesn't mean I don't regularly keep them clean, which I do. Going to the dentist is at the VERY bottom of my priority list.

I've got health insurance and it only takes a little bit, i'd say i go no more than once a year. Just want to make sure my teeth dont rot out of my head, i dont care if they are sparkling white or anything, just not yellow.

Yeah, EVERYONE in the UK and Japan has bad teeth. That's a FACT. It's not true, but it IS a fact.
