Default Why Season 9 had so high ratings?

If you compare to the other seasons there was like 2-3 million more viewers each episode right?

Why is that?

My theori wich im dont think im alone at is that so many people wanted to se Hammonds crash in the first episode and not only the top gear viewers also other people that never watched the show before saw it. Then they realised this show is funny and the sticked on it for the rest of the season?

What do u guys think??

And i hope top gear in season 10 is like season 5 to 9 was. Before season 5 they were to o serious, if i want to look at serious motorshow i watch fifth gear witch sucks.

Come for the broken hammond, stay for the cool sketches.

Series 9 was the first one i saw as it came out, rather than downloading weeks later, i think they actually improved it with all the messing around and rocket launching.

I think its becuase it started to turn into more of a comedy. I was talking to a friend of mine which said he liked Top Gear now because it wasn't so much about cars but more funny.

I prepare older top gear, especially the races across Europe. But the funny stuff like the rocket and the convertible People Carrier is awesome.

Are you mad? The rocket launching was pathetic.

4x01 for me, Exige vs. Apache. Something about massive gunships on a car show just gets everybody wetting themselves.

The XKR-R/Aston DB7 was the episode that did it for me. The funny stuff is great but I want some decent reviews to go along with it. Theres nothing bad about being a little more serious (ie stop using words such as "horsepowers" or "torques" and use some proper units like before). Reminds me of of the 20th aniversary episode of old Top Gear in the early 00s where Jeremy said something about getting a car's facts wrong is "amaturish". Seems ironic since now he seems to get a lot of facts wrong.

I couldn't agree more. I saw the video where he said that as well, and I think back to it a few times per season

People watched it because they enjoyed the fact that they had pure, light- hearted entertainment before the realities of work on a Monday morning, just as Andy Wilman wanted.. pure and simple! And let it continue, especially if they get higher ratings. They are obviously doing things right!

Not to turn this into a rehash of several old threads, but if they want to make a comedy show out of it, just go ahead and create another show. Add John Cleese and Sacha Baron-Cohen to the cast. Change to the Benny Hill theme song and run around the studio really fast chasing women in their undies. I think the gang are truly funny and I would support them in a stand-alone comedy show. But can we still have some car reviews in Top Gear?

Can I point back to the intro for S1 E1?

And once a season we may actually review a car.

TG has car reviews.. I watched a review of the 207 by May today on UKGold.. and after watching some 5th Gear reviews which try and do similar things I start thinking to myself Top Gear need to go to the next stage again. It's about evolution and that is what TG has done over the past 7-8 series. Series 1 was to test the water and it worked. Series 9 was probably one of the best in terms of comedic value, and for people who watch it at that time on a Sunday night it's refreshing and fun. I enjoy watching the challenges.. Heck, my girlfriend and several women I know love the show because it is 3 middle age guys mucking about, something they can't do so much because they have work in much less fun industries. These are the reasons we look forward to Sunday nights and why I detest the idea of watching the second rate, copy-cat antics on Five. If FG did proper road tests I would watch it. That would be a source of info for me on cars, because to be honest, I usually use Autocar for car info anyway.

Was at a party, we actually watched it [US Special ®] while drinking, and it was a hoot. Everybody laughed their asses of, got some new fans there. images/smilies/smile.gif

Personally, I'd rather show them 09x06, the Limmo bits are hugely funny, just great.

For a more serious viewer, I'd rather use the Korean episode. It's the perfect mixture of their strong minded opinions, their humor, the blokeness, and so on.

Perfect.

Hammond's crash + cocking about.

Haven't we had this discussion somewhere before... like in every single thread since series 9 began?
