Default Classic Sports Cars at the Royal Dockyards (56K better come to Valencia to see it)

I went to this exhibition last week, so here are a few pictures I took. Sorry for the crappy quality, but I'm not very good at photography, and my camera is not the best.

The exhibition focuses on the evolution of the sports car, and starts in the first two decades of the 20th century, with stuff like this:

Sénéchal VS2:
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/3007/snchalvs2pa7.jpg

Also, there were a bunch of early British sports cars, like this Aston Martin:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/6568/astonmartinredsideresizis7.jpg

One of the most spectacular cars on show, a Delahaye 135:
http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/6619/delahayetype35rearandsitb1.jpg

But to me the stars of the show were the three Pegasos that were in front of that Delahaye. Here's one of them:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/7227/pegasoz102touringcoupfrkc7.jpg

Next to the Pegasos, there was a car that can't be missing in any sports car exhibition:

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/7168/mercedesbenz300slfront2hz1.jpg

the beautiful 300 SL Gullwing.

That's all for today. Tomorrow I will post some more pics, probably of the German cars on show.

The Delahayes, especially those bodied by Figoni and Falaschi, are beautiful. Post some more pictures of the white one if you've got 'em.

As promised, here is a new bunch of pics, ordered by country. First, Ze Germans, of which there were only four cars:

http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/1103/mercedesbenz300slredreapo9.jpg

Closeup of the 300SL (I really wish I had a better camera):

A Porsche 356:

And a humble Auto Union 1000SP. Only 3 cylinders, but engine size has nothing to do with sportiness:

Next up, Spanish cars...

There were only 4 Spanish cars on show, but all of them were rare enough to make it worth it.

First up, this David from the 1920s:

http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/6665/davidhp10hs0.jpg

The other three cars were three Pegasos, on display between a Delahaye (I think) and the Mercedes 300SL:

First up, a Z102 Berlineta by prestigious coachbuilder Touring:

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/6284/pegasoz102berlinettatouuf5.jpg

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/9538/pegasoz102touringberlinqp7.jpg

Next, a Z102 Spyder by Spanish coachbuilder Serra (my favourite of the three):

http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/4200/pegasoz102spyderserraot1.jpg

http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/686/pegasoz102spyderserrareol5.jpg

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/1290/pegasoz102spyderserraya7.jpg

And finally, a Pegaso Z103. In reality, this has the mechanical components from a wrecked Alfa Romeo and one of the Touring-designed Z103 bodies left over when ENASA stopped production of the Pegaso cars.

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3543/pegasoz103berlinettatoubu0.jpg

Here it is next to another classic car of the 50s:
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/4766/z103vs300slxl4.jpg

This is it for now, next up will be French and British cars (the bulk of the exhibition, really).

Here's the last part of the series. French, British and Italian sports cars. Enjoy.

First up, some Frenchies. The first, obvious ones, the Bugattis:

A Type 40:

and a legendary Type 35:

Next, there were the Delahayes:

And finally, an Alpine A110:

British cars made up the bulk of the exhibition (I wonder why). There were no less than 20 cars from the UK, from all kinds of marques. Here are some highligts:

There were no less than four MGs, the oldest of which was this one, from the mid-20s:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/MG.jpg

The MG lay between this Lagonda 3 Litre Sport:
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Lagonda_3_Litre_Sport.jpg

and this early Aston Martin 2 Litre Tourer:
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Aston_Martin_-_Red_-_Side_resize.jpg

In this general view of this side of the exhibition, you can see no less than 5 British sports cars: The Lagonda, the MG, the Aston Martin, an SS and a Riley. And the green one of which we can only see the headlights and front bumper was another MG.
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/General.jpg

The rarest car by far in the exhibition was also British. Made by a man in a shed, it was lightweight (only 690 Kg) and had a Cosworth-tuned Ford engine with 140HP. The name, Tornado Tempest Mk2. Only three were ever produced, and the only one known to have survived is this one.

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/UK_vs_Germany.jpg

Next to the Tempest, as you would have guessed, was one of the most famous British cars of all time: the E-Type:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Jaguar_E-Type_-_Side_Angle.jpg

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Jaguar_E-Type_-_Front_Angle_resize.jpg

Next to the Jag, there was also a rare car, this Jensen C-V8:
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Jensen_C-V8.jpg

And, in case you were wondering, James Bond's DB5 was also there:
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Aston_Martin_DB5_-_Side.jpg

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Aston_Martin_DB5_-_Front_resize.jpg

This is more or less all, now the only thing left are the Italian cars.

Italian cars were scarce, but there were some fine examples. The first one on show was this Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint which sat next to the E-Type:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/E-Type_vs_Giulia_Sprint.jpg

Ferrari was represented by a Dino...
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Dino_206_GT_-_Front_Angle.jpg

... and a 375 GT:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Ferrari_375_GT_-_Side_Angle_resize.jpg

There were also 2 Lambos: a Miura...

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Lamborghini_Miura_1.jpg

... and a 400GT:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Lamborghini_400GT_-_Side_resize.jpg

Finally, Maserati was also present with this beautiful example:
http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2008/08/06/Maserati_3800GT.jpg

Not many Italian cars, but by the time I got into this exhibition I had already seen (and heard) several dozens of Ferraris heading towards the F3000 race. Some of the pics me and my friend took will go in a separate thread.

Thanks! That Auto Union was one of the cars that surprised me the most. It had the smallest engine of all, but somehow it embodied the term "sports car" better than some of the others.
