Datsun 1200.

Are you sure? I think I remember it being something else, but I know little about American cars so I won't argue.

That's probably the first time I've written it, but I think we use "reach" in Australia.

One of them is called "Fanny". Depending on where you're from that could mean different things.

People dress up a lot in Kyoto, getting into the spirit of things. Its funny watching foreign tourists taking pictures with Japanese tourists dressed up as geisha or even just in a kimono. Could have been a wedding.

I think it's a Plymouth - the body style is the same as the Coronet, but those look like 1968 Belvedere taillights.

Actually it appears to be a '68 or so Roadrunner.

After I posted, I thought "hmmm, could be a Belvedere though..." So Lupin_IV may very well be right. Mopar's aren't my strong suit.

There was very little exterior difference between the Belvedere, Road Runner, Satellite, and GTX in 1968. Hence, I didn't directly state that I thought it was any specific model of Plymouth.

A bit of a challenge: Find RHD Ferrari or Lambo...
Though it's a RHD country, almost all Ferrari and Lambo are in LHD, because of 1 weird (for me) reason: Aesthetics...

And I've seen some LHD Japanese cars in Japan that have RHD equivalent as well, like Infiniti G37, Lexus IS200, etc.

Not sure about the aesthetics argument. I've heard it said that some like the idea of a LHD car as some kind of status symbol but I think the real reason is the lack of cars allocated to Japan, hence a large number brought in as grey imports.

Hell, even in Australia you have to wait a couple years for anything really sporty. When I was a kid I picked up a pamphlet from a BMW dealer explaining how you could go to Germany and stay for 3 months, buy a Beemer and bring it back as a personal import and the saving on the car would pay for your 3 month holiday (the rules have changed since then).

So what I'm saying is, RHD versions are official imports and LHD are grey (probably).

True. I think quite a number are from US servicemen bringing their cars over or buying US spec cars (I don't know how it works exactly). Another possible reason (for older cars) is that some older models that are sought after here are nothing special overseas so they can be imported for profit.

When I went to the shipping company in Oz to pick up some stuff I saw a bunch of old Japanese bikes and was told that a Japanese guy bought them up and shipped them back to Japan.

I think the Japanese feel that a European car is more "pure" in LHD form; because European cars were designed to be LHD in the first place. It's just like the people here in Vancouver; they buy a Toyota Celsior in RHD form when it's just a Lexus LS400. More or less the same car, but a "pure" Japanese car is supposed to be RHD.
