I see a lot now they sell well around here! Hopefully I'll be able to get one used in a few years.. if they prove to be reliable
Prove to be reliable? It's a rotary, of course it won't be reliable!Originally Posted by Renesis

It would definetly be worth the work and money to keep one up though.

I hope you were joking, if not you're ignorant and dumb.Originally Posted by zenon
Well, I was joking, but only half joking. Rotary engines have not been known to be reliable at all. The Renesis rotary will be much more reliable than Mazda's earlier rotaries (with the better Apex seals and what-not), but I don't think saying rotaries are unreliable is ignorant or dumb.Originally Posted by Renesis

If you don't turbocharge a rotary it will be pretty reliable.
Yes it is, what made the previous Rotaries a bad reputation (specially turbo RX-7's) is their dumb owners upping the boost without knowing jack shit.Originally Posted by zenon

Okay, I guess I'll modify what I said a bit then: they are unreliable engines when put under stress.Originally Posted by Renesis

The RX-7 engine was an absolutely amazing engine, but the fact that it commonly required rebuilds and was prone to problems when putter under stress could definetly be interpreted as the engine being unreliable.
I've known two people personally who owned Turbo IIs - one who left the engine virutally stock but still had to have it rebuilt twice in the 4-5 years he owned it, and another who went through 3 or 4 entire engines (he was running enough boost and engine mods to get well over 300hp out of the engines), finally got fed up, an dropped an LS-1 into the car.
As I said before, they are amazing engines, but to keep them running over a long period of time they do require more maintenance then some of their competition (such as the 7MGTE or 2JZ in the Supra).

alot of rx-8s showed up around , whats going on??![]()
