you also get a slightly more powerful engine for some reason...

I suspect so there is more distinction between the normal SS and the HSV (it's like 4.7 seconds to 100 vs 5...)
 
Keep in mind the US only measures 0-60mph, 100kmh is 62mph so there is a slight variance there.
 
Bloody quick for a sort of standard car either way. My Passat does it in around six seconds and it's no slouch.

For a car of that size and price, it's seriously quick. Maybe they want M5/RS6 levels of power, not possible for the money.
 
I love the last Monaro, it's still such a good looking car. The early models were the best before they lost the design purity with the bonnet scoops and overly aggressive bumpers. The VF concept looks lovely, shame they'd never build it. They'd sell extremely well I reckon.
