So many engines and so many possible combinations. How about the 8.1 in a Silverado 1500?

Aww...my favorite crate engine isn't on there! Then again the ZZ572/720R isn't exactly a production engine...

They have way too many engines. They could easily cut that number in half.

but, why? most of the engines are just different configurations of the same parts. There is a lot of parts sharing going on, which cuts costs.

I want to see the 8.1 liter big block put into the next Camaro or the Vette.

Why all this trouble? Just put the LS7 in every car.
"in related news, sales of GM vehicles have skyrocketed, industry analysts are baffled..."
"industry analysts have finally come to the conclusion that it is the extensive use of plastic in the interiors that should be credited"

the LX9, doesnt really seem to have any use, the next higher 3.6 should just take its spot

Nope, it would be sweet. Would be like the 60s all over again.

What, everyone drove trucks in the 60's?

EDIT:

Vortec 8100 8.1L V8 (L18)
Horsepower: 225-330 @ 3600-4200 rpm

Torque: 350-450 lb-ft @ 1200-3200 rpm

Applications: Chevrolet Silverado
GMC TopKick/Kodiak/Sierra

The problem is, nice low end torque, but not nearly enough power. Also, look at the peak horsepower. Its comes at 4200 rpm tops, the redline on that things gotta be 5000 tops. Now why would you want that in a sports car? :yucky:

Well of course they would have to work over the engine a bit.

Weak American Coffee

I thought they stopped making Engines in FLint, Michigan, atleast according to Michael Moore.

Bah, you shouldn't listen to Michael Moron. After all, he was the one who bombed Team America's headquarters!

For those of you interested in what crate engines you can order through GM Goodwrench/GM Performance Parts, here's the link:

http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfpartsjsp/partlist.jsp?section=ce&cat=9274#12496769

Also, some stats for the engine I want in my next GM car:

Engine: ZZ572/720R
HP: 720 @ 6250 RPM
Torque: 685 @ 4500 RPM
Max Recommended RPM: 6750 RPM
Compresion Ratio: 12:1
Displacement: 572 CI or 9373 cc

Why would you want an 8liter engine when a 7liter engine can easily put down more power than the average person can handle, with decent fuel economy? I'm sure more HP can be squeezed from the 7 liter, too.

Seriously though:

RWD Platform cars should get LS1/LS2 and the standard Vette or maybe GTO Suspension and chassis

FWD Cars should get the NA/forced induction Ecotecs (depending on relative sportiness), and maybe the Cobalt SS suspension and chassis.

RWD Super Cars (sportscars like the GTO and the Vette) should get the LS7 and Z06/Z51 suspension and chassis.

Then, the differences would be that less sporty, more comfortable cars could get suspension variations aboved tweaked for ride comfort and engines tweaked for smoothness rather than performance.

More sporty cars would get suspensions tweaked for cornering, engines tuned or force-induced for more power, etc.

So two families of engines/suspensions, and cars that I would actually want to buy.

Bear in mind that I'm no car designer, this is an oversimplified view, and it is really more complex than that, this is just what is going through my head when I see this godforsakenly large list of engines where the majority seem useless. Also bear in mind that I'm not talking about trucks/SUV's, just cars.

And finally, bear in mind that I'm probably totally wrong.

What's baffling me at the moment is the LL8, the 4.2 Straight 6 with DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, and varaible valve timing. This truck engine is more advanced than most of their car engines! And GM has been telling us for years that 4 valves per cylinders aren't better.

I think they should build a cut price corvette around this engine, and go knock the teeth out of the 350Z and s2000. :D

The Straight 5 and 6 are interesting engines. Would be even more interesting of they were used in a car.

Sadly my 2.4L Twin Cam and Cavalier both got ditched for those Eco's!! But hey, I like the 2.0 S/C Ecotec, hell I lived in Kaiserslautern for 7 years and saw the factory every day! And man, the Northstar in our 2000 Cadillac SLS and it produces more then the current Northstar! :( (LD8 of course)

Some forwards, some backwards I guess. But they sure have alot of engines to throw around.
