That's my tribute to all the japanese makers that in the end of the 80's to the 90's manufactured some of the best worldwide sports cars. They were all strangely stock limited to around 280 bhp (anyone knows exactly why?) and thanks in part to japanese videogames (Gran Turismo, of course;)) are now our generation heroes.
So here's my top 5 favourite ones:

1997 NSX Type S Zero: With an engine redesign from 3.0 to 3.2 litres and those BBS wheels are the definitive NSX versions (I don't really like the restyled versions) . Zero meant that it was a special lightened version. Sadly only available in Japan.

1999 Honda S2000 Type V (the European stock)
The great VTEC screaming at 9.000 without any roof means that is THE japanese Roadster.

1994 Mazda Roadster 1.8
Of course the little Miata :D It was launched in 1989 as an attempt to relaunch the little english roadster (MGBs, Sprites, TR6...) and they absolutely did it. In 1994 first appeared the 1.8L 131 BHP

2002 Mazda RX7 Spirit R
The last and rarest of all the last gen RX7. Launched in 1992, with a 1.3L bi-rotor wankel engine producing 276 BHP.

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI Tommi Makinnen Edition.
With some very cool side stripes and some special mechanical features. It's for me the coolest Evo ever. As simple as this.

Personally there really aren't any 90s Japanese sports cars I don't like.

must be the ugliest car ever

MX5 not a sports car? Are you on crack?

^would you call an slk a sportscar?

for me, a sportscar has to be focused on performance. the mx5 is just a fun car to drive, but no way hardcore enough to be labelled a sportscar

like the S2000, that is in my eyes a sportscar

^crap, let me edit my posts before replying, will you :D

S2000
FD RX7
NSX
WRX STI
R34 Skyline GT-R

I think you have the wrong idea. My RX7 (with only 138hp) is a sports car. If you drive it, you could not consider it anything else. Same goes for the MX5. Its not terribly fast, but it is light enough to be fairly quick. Sports cars do not require huge amounts of power. Light weight goes a long way.
