My new Audi A8 3.2 FSI Quattro

Sex. Must be a joy to drive. I always looked into getting an S4 every now and then...an A8 for me would be end-game

Do any of the A8s come with the "glowing eyelashes" as I like to call it? :D

Awesome Audi. I love it.

I didn't know they made a 3.2 A8? I thought that even in Europe where they get more model in the range, the all A8s would have 8 cyl engines.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys!

You mean like the R8 and the A5? I don't think so - maybe there's an after-market kit?

Yeah, they even sell a 2.8 V6 in Europe! It's in the US that they only sell the V8s. Before the 2006 facelift, there was a 3.0 but that was replaced by the 3.2 FSI:

Audi is introducing its pioneering petrol direct injection technology in the luxury class. The new Audi A8 3.2 FSI is powered by a six-cylinder engine developing 260 bhp, which combines free-revving high performance, refinement and economy all in one. With 40 bhp more power than its 3.0 predecessor, the 3.2 FSI is an engine befitting the sportiest luxury saloon in the premium segment.

The 3.2 V6 FSI is making its production debut in its new, uprated 191 kW (260 bhp) version in the Audi A8. This represents an increase in power of 40 bhp over its predecessor, the A8 3.0, which developed 220 bhp.

It is a power unit that boasts all the characteristics of an ultramodern petrol engine: FSI petrol direct injection with demand-controlled fuel supply, four valves per cylinder, a variable intake manifold and continuous camshaft adjustment on both the inlet and exhaust side.

This V6 engine delivers maximum power at 6,500 rpm; its peak torque of 330 Nm is available at just 3,250 rpm. The A8 3.2 FSI with continuously variable multitronic transmission and front-wheel drive accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (this also applies to the version with quattro permanent four-wheel drive and 6-speed tiptronic transmission). The combination of the efficient engine and the low weight of the Audi Space Frame aluminium body means average fuel consumption figures of just 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

More than 90 percent of the engine's maximum torque is available across a wide speed range from 2,400 to 5,500 rpm - a unique characteristic for a naturally aspirated V6. As far as the driver is concerned this means a dynamic and forceful response to every movement of the accelerator pedal plus a wide usable speed range up to 7,200 rpm; these qualities are the best evidence of this engine's efficiency and the special abilities of FSI technology.

Very very nice car. The only chance I have to see one of those around here is if I'm in one of the wealthiest areas of the wealthiest neighbourhoods. And it surely would be armoured. I specially like the interior, very luxurious yet not exaggerated. Congratulations!

Does yours have satnav jarborra? The flip action on that thing is my favourite on any nav unit I've ever seen.

Overall the interior on the A8 is very nice... definitely nicer than any other sedan (except mine :p).

I like.
I've never before hated and loved the same person for the same reason at the same time, until I clicked this thread

A8s are awesome, congrats!

No, just kiddin', the A8 is seriously cool and as close to the - dare I say it? - perfect car as possible.

I wouldn't go that far. e39 M5 is probably as close to perfect as you can get.

Thanks! Yeah, it has the 16:9 flip-out screen with sat nav. I think it's standard on all A8s - at least here in Europe. The action is very sweet!

Picked up the A8 today. Drives like a dream. Here are some pics. Will try to take more/better ones later...

Wow, nice ride !

Is the V6 sufficient to move that huge thing ?

I can tell you this right now, I drove the new a6 with the 3.2L, man it was gutless, when I hopped back in my maxima it felt like a racecar. IMO these kind of cars(a6, a8) struggle with such a small engine, the 4.2L is a totally different beast.

Was the V12 tdi ever an option for you? Or is it ridiculously expensive compared to the one you choose.

In any case I'm jealous, it could have a 1.8 4 banger for all I care, the A8 has just about the biggest presence on the road of any of the big german saloons.. That bonnet is freaking endless. Enjoy the new car, and what an awesome car....

The v12 tdi is only for the Q7(and may be the R8). The biggest diesel in the A8 range is 4.2 TDI.

I'm obviously biased, but it's really quick and responsive with great pick-up. The engine block may be smaller but the 7-speed tiptronic is geared to deliver maximum torque in all gears and that is really obvious when driving it. It's definitely faster than my BMW 7-series V8.

I wanted to go for the diesel originally but, once I ran the numbers, it didn't make sense economically unless I drove >18,000km per year, which won't happen. With gas prices where they are today ($8.61 per gallon in Sweden), I didn't wan to get the 4.2L petrol engine either.

Pictures of the sat nav will come! :D Used it yesterday and expect to use it extensively today when we drive some 6 hours south-west to our country house.
