Ownership Verified: "Riley" - 2012 Volkswagen Golf R

But for yours to be not recognized as a US-model, you'd have to at least get rid of the sidemarkers.. :D Thats *the* US-model-giveaway .. :D

Agreed. Unfortunately that is not so easy.

Your options are to buy a Euro bumper and paint it and hope that it matches perfectly (it probably won't) or color match your side markers which is what most people do... unfortunately that looks terrible. I haven't seen a single U.S. R with color matched side markers that I like.

Another option is to get clear markers. They don't stand out as much but clear markers are borderline Carbage...

Probably have to live with the orange ones. :p

I never noticed the side markers until you guys mentioned them.

I don't know about your painters quality, but if you get a part repainted / replaced and painted here properly, you do not see a difference. Not in a car thats less than 10yrs old. And even then its just a matter of how good the guy does his job.

It seems to be pretty random for me. Even a fraction of a shade would bother the hell out of me. My dad hit a piece of brick that came off a truck on the motorway and had to replace and repaint the lower portion of the bumper. This was on a brand new 2011 Camaro, base white, no metallic and it still didn't match.

One of my early jobs was at an automotive paint store. Numerous things can affect the colors in minute amounts. I would not do any paint work to any part of a car unless absolutely necessary.

If I ever have any front end damage, which hopefully I won't, I would probably put a Euro bumper on then but that is the only case.

Last chance to order a Golf R

2011-Volkswagen-Golf-R-Front-Angle-View-588x384.jpeg

Still debating that Golf R purchase? better make up your mind quick! The last chance to order a 2013 Golf R is next month. today VW announced that next month ordering cycle will be the last for the Golf R and production will end in August.

You americans and your utterly stupid "modelyears". Last chance to order a 2013 Golf R is June 2012 and its production of the 2013 model will end in August 2012? Its just marketing-bs.

I sounds to me like production for the American Golf R will stop, period. Not just the 2013 model year.

It makes sense to me. It's kinda like magazines. If you didn't start to see the June issue on the news stands until June 15th, that's only 2 weeks before it becomes July, and that issue seems "old." The 2013 model year may starter production on 2012, but that's because the new cars won't hit the smaller dealerships spread across the country until July or August...and then then only have 4-5 months before they are "a year old."

Not saying I agree with it, I'm just saying I understand it.

Yeah, I agree, it's something they should have never started (bringing out MY2013 before 2012 is over, I mean). But now it's the norm so you can't really do anything about it.

As for the Golf R, that is the end of American production. MY2012 Golf Rs began production in October-November of 2011 and continued until May 5th of this year. From May 5th to the end of August all Golf Rs produced for the U.S. market will be MY2013. Presumably this is because the R has been selling rather poorly, so VW probably didn't want to have the R as the only MY2012 car left on dealers' lots. Some American buyers might not understand that the 2012 Golf R is still $5,000 more than the 2013 GTI right next to it, for example.

Currently, Rs have been selling at a rate (give or take) of about 300 per month starting in January (the first U.S. Rs arrived in dealers in early January - mine came in January 12th). This makes a total of about 2,400 U.S.-spec Golf Rs if the purchasing trend continues until production end. About 1,500 of these cars will be MY2012 and 900 will be MY2013. For reference, both the MKIV and MKV Golf R32s were limited production to 5,000 units, so this will make the MKVI the most rare R-line Golf by a significant margin.

As of August, the factories in Germany will be switching to the MQB platform which is for the Golf MKVII (as well as some of VW's other models). So, it makes sense that they won't be producing a MKVI car on the same assembly line.

How the fuck is that Mustang so much larger than the NSX???

Welcome to America, lol.

Our current pony cars are so bloated it's ridiculous. I saw the new Charger when it first came out at an autoshow parked right next to a Dodge Journey (that's the SUV crossover) and I kid you not - the Charger was only a couple of inches shorter than the SUV. It's ridiculous.
