Ownership Verified: 1965 Ford Anglia

You took out the hand pump and pumped it up of course...

That makes sense. I wonder when car companies last supplied hand/foot pumps in the car toolkit.

Also I forgot that these things didn't have wing mirrors, I'm afraid that would just scare me. Great to see you're really getting stuck in to it anyway. :)

Not edit-edit: I just noticed how comically small the exhaust pipe is. :D

Yes an definite 'interesting' car - not one for my list of cars I want but will never get/afford list though. I remember these new - I am that old!

Today, not an awful lot as I had other priorities. However, one of the new hoses arrived today. Also forgot to note that all the doors, latches, hinges and general moving parts got a good greasing yesterday. I had forgotten how nice a freely moving door feels!

Thanks for the comments guys, in regards to mirrors, prior to the tiny overtaking mirror being added, a 'spotter' proved quite useful as a double shoulder check on the motorway.

Little more progress today, I'm determined to photograph everything, no matter how small as part of the car's history. So this may get gradually duller as jobs become less exciting.

Oil & Filter change (I er, forgot to photograph the plug until after the oil came out)

New bonnet rubbers, bonnet sits a lot nicer now

New bottom hose arrived as well, when the top is here we can change those

And, shine! Responding well to a good clay, cut and polish.

Edit: Also steering box oil, and back plate bolts.

Went for a drive!

Quad post time:

Discovered the reason why she was a little low on power... Some previous owner fitted a ridiculous air filter.
Old filter, see any problems? Haha

New filter fitted, acceleration returns:

Work on the paint has now reached the bonnet, looking nice a shiny again.

The first time I've seen hipster vintage type filters used in an appropriate way that actually enhances the picture, well done! (Also very much well done on the car, but that goes without saying)

Looks great.

If you got it from "SussexClassics". I was thinking a few weeks ago of buying a Ford Corsair from them as a first car. Sadly, it's now sold.

How's the insurance on the Anglia?

I love your car.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. No real progress today, took the car in to get new U-Joints fitted and discovered the propshaft was pretty well bodged, so we took it down to a propshaft specialist in Morcambe. Fingers crossed, we can pick up the nicely reworked prop, fit it up, and be ready for shows at the weekend!

I saw that Corsair as well, I like those cars a lot. (Unfortunately didn't see it in person, it was sold). Re: Insurance, currently I am taking out day cover at ?20 a pop for nice weekends or show dates when I am required to drive it. Waiting until November for an affordable (sub-1k) policy for it, as my second car. If you insure a classic as a daily, you'll likely get stung, although age is on your side compared to me.

Your car looks awesome, good use of filters :)

Today:
Picked up the reworked prop from Morcambe and got it fitted
New lift pump
New fan belt
Replaced steering wheel boss
'Fitted' a owner's manual
New glovebox strap
New clutch release spring
Tweaked the throttle
Waxed

TAS Fair at Manchester Airport viewing park tomorrow, first show of sorts! The performance after these upgrades is fantastic, it is 200x faster, better throttle response, quieter, like a completely different car.

I wonder what the mathematical odds are of you seeing another identical Anglebox.

Really enjoying seeing all the work you're doing, she really looks great now. :)

Great looking Anglia and I'm happy to see young people taking care of old cars. Keep up the good work!

It certainly gave me a shock Matt, and cheers Tcdoe. Today so far: started cleaning the interior including vinyl and chrome, and made a quick display board for local events to give a little background. I have a copy of the text if anyone is really that interested.

I bet the correct filter is hard to find, so the PO just macgyvered something. A mild case of FPO (fucking previous owner) syndrome.

I once came across an old Datsun-Nissan Bluebird with an air filter that was so badly clogged from dirt and grime/oil that the throttle jammed open if you gave it too much gas. No idea how, probably because it created a vacuum of some kind. It was particularly interesting because the car was an automatic. Had to knock it into neutral and turn the engine off every once in a while.
