So I saw this was heading for an okay price on eBay, and was local to me, so I put a bid on it.

Then I won it. :|

So off I went to collect a 1986 Mk2 Fiesta I'd never seen in my life before, which I'd legally entered a contract to buy. Pretty risky, but I think it paid off okay! Trailered it home, then gave it a quick spin, changed the oil and ordered some new tyres. Now I've driven a good few miles in it, and it's absolutely brilliant. Really tight still, despite 86k on the clock. Lots of good service history with it and receipts etc.

It lived on the Island of Guernsey for the first year of it's life (hire car?) and since then has lived about an hour from me, the last owner being from 1989-today. He averaged 1,000 miles a year in the thing. It's properly old man spec with the paint touch ins to prove it, plus the rather 70s carpet... It's had welding of course, which isn't of the best quality to look at (patches on the sills), but it's very strong and firm, just not pretty repairs.

The 1.1 is a crossflow Kent engine, a direct advancement of the one in my Anglia, which is nice. It's really rather peppy, and has a lovely low rasp at low revs. Sounds much better than it should!

Plan for this one is lightly improve it, have some summer fun in it, and then shift it on to someone has the time to do it properly, and the room to store it properly.

Proof pic tomorrow, it's dark now! Been driving too long.

As collected, aftermarket hubcaps were the first thing to go:

Look at that aftermarket wobbly carbon fibre knob and those homemade floor mats!

I have no idea if the Olympic was a special edition or something:

Kent engine in oily glory, this car is covered in waste oil, everywhere, just like the Anglia was. Excellent as rust proofing:

Very 80s in here:

There weren't even any Olympic games held in 1986?!

I love it, but then again.. i do got a 80's Ford myself, i'm slightly biased. :p

Is this gonna be a daily? or ya got some plans for it?

I have no reason to love it, but I do.
Congrats!

Ah, yes. My friend had the 1-liter version of this. He traded a snowmobile for it IIRC. It replaced a horrible 4-cylinder carbed E28.

I seem to recall that the steering column on his wasn't quite straight. Was that something that happened when they made the LHD version or does the RHD one have the same "feature?"

The plastic grilles on those spotlamps scream 1980's, or maybe early 90's. I would probably replace them with a pair of Hella 160's.

I put a pair of Hella Rallye 1000's on my first car, an '84 Escort. 100 watt bulbs, of course.

Just some summer fun! My commute is 150 miles a day, so I don't fancy it as a daily. Will be in the evenings though, shopping car etc.

This is so cool, congrats!

I've never seen such an oily engine bay though, almost as if someone purposely coated it all in oil.

It's definitely been done on purpose as rust proofing, it's everywhere, even the wheels were covered in it when I picked it up.

The steering wheels are all off centre  Ford bodged it by putting off centre hole on Mk2 Fiesta steering wheels.

Those Hellas do look good...

Question are if they still are being made. The 160 Classic is chromed and works better on something like an Anglia or a Volvo Amazon. On an 80's car you want that black plastic housing, IMO.

You can probably get like 10 different but similar chinese knockoffs on eBay but I would personally want Hella just for the logo. :p

It looks good, well done!

Low mileage, fairly tidy and hopefully much to much work required. Smiley face yellow is a bit of a personal choice. :p

No, not a daily driver for 150 mile commute, for sure.

I think you should have little trouble selling it on when the time comes.

I guess the third piece of the puzzle would be a clean early Ka!

How easy would it to adjust the bonnet?

I've heard online it's a proper pain in the ballsack to adjust, because it's front hinged. If it's anything like the front hinged Anglia one, it'll really be a patience tester...

Might give it a go.

That must be the first time I've ever heard someone describe a 1.1l Kent as peppy... I had it in a 1993 Fiesta as a 1.3 Valencia, and it was the least peppy engine I've ever driven. Even my diesels were revhappier than that one.

Lemon & Lime, good combination I hear.

More like sage and custard :p

That is really nice Fiesta. I don't remember if I have ever seen a yellow one.

Balls.

Forgot the proof pic on this one as well, and it's pissing down... Er, there's this?

If not I'll get one tomorrow...

In other news, fixed the dropped door, drove it many miles, cleaned it a bit more yadda yadda. It's a good car!

wot? the steering wheel doesn't rotate around its center?

Dig it! So 1980s, so Ford.

The oil thing definitely works. A buddy of mine rolls it on the undersides of his 70s Chevrolet pickup trucks with a paint roller. None of them are rusty.

Still got this.

So there's a chap who lives in the Cotswolds, who had a bright yellow Vauxhall Corsa. Unfortunately this car got vandalised by some spiteful individual who thought it spoiled pictures of the village he lives in. It made national news last month, and rightfully so! You should be allowed to park whatever car you wish outside your property without expecting something like this.

In solidarity some car types have organised a yellow car convoy through said village, to raise money for charity and show our support for the poor chap who had his car damaged. So I'll be taking the Fiesta. :D

(Reminds me a little bit of Connor's day, which was one of the first events I took the Anglia to in 2012).
