As far as boring every day stuff being good to drive, I can't think of any decade where that was the case. When I'm thinking boring everyday stuff I'm thinking Camry not MR-2, sure Honda did relatively well with their regular cars not being a complete snooze fest but that's very uncommon.
the things opel had on offer in the 70s and 80s were a whole lot more interesting than what they have today
    same for ford

i'll give you Opel but Ford? (To clarify, not that Ford didn't make interesting stuff in the 70's and 80's but rather that they make pretty cool stuff now)

        Your argument is invalid.

In Europe, and Belgium especially, we buy VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volvo. Others include the Frenchies (Citroen, Peugeot, Renault), Opel and Ford. And only then we get to the japanese brands (Nissan, Honda, etc...)

based on nothing, i'm pretty sure honda and toyota sell more cars than citroen or peugeot

and general consensus among everyone who knows a bit of cars, still tends to be: "whatever you do, don't buy french!!"
and most tend to stick to that...

No Jap in top 10, first and only non European brand is Hyundai. As for French cars, those are #2 3 and 4 so not a lot of people take your advice

never said it was my advise. just what anyone who expects anything more from a car than just moving from spot A to spot B, will advise you.
but you got a C1, pretty obvious you're not one of those...

i am surprised about that top 10 though, didn't expect that
(besides a few kangoo/partners (and those don't count - they're not cars), i don't know anyone who drives a french car)

                civics on the other hand...

Going to Necro this thread because just read this on car throttle.

The writer essentially explains how I feel about the decade but better than I could. To sort of add to that, while there were plenty of good driver's cars around from the "usual suspects" (BMW, Porsche, Ford, GM, etc...) 90's is where Japanese manufacturers really came into their own as far as driver's/performance cars go, thereby expanding options drastically.
