Official WRC thread

I'm fine with half an hour shows in the evening.
It seems the championship will be close, the i20 looks to be the fastest car out there. Ogier was trying to do everything but couldn't keep up with Neuville, just look at the onboards and his facial expressions. Toyota is on a good path to make a championship contender. The only loser is Citroen. I was expecting speed, consistancy from them and all 3 cars, since they had a break last year. I was also expecting more from Abarths, well at least that more would see the finish.

Nueville and Meeke need to get their shit together. Other then that, it promises to be a great year.

Agreed.

I am extremely happy to see Jari-Matti doing well at the moment, even if he had only managed a third in Monte and a second here it would've been a great result. I've continued supporting him since 2008 despite him struggling most of the time.

Yes, Toyota has started very well! Happy for Jari-Matti and Miikka. :) (and Tommi, of course!)

Anyone else think Ott will get his first win this year? That would be nice. But really, I'm pulling for so many of them.

Yes for sure. He will probably help Ford clinch manufacturers trophy as he is currently the best second driver in the teams.
But I guess that could change, when WRC gets to gravel. If Hyundai is really that fast, Paddon could be a weapon.

It's exciting to think that there are so many drivers right now that have a legitimate chance to win any rally. :) Even last year, we had that streak of non-Ogier winners. (nothing against Ogier, but some variety is always nice)

How is everyone liking the cars? I like the look, though I wish there was a way to make them sound more Group B. They sound a bit more aggressive, especially from the inside, but not a dramatic difference from what I can hear. I still miss the loud turbo chirping, too. The last car that sounded genuinely different was the Mini, and even that sounded more like the current cars when they're down a few cylinders. :p

Yeah, but that streak didn't made the championship more open. Now I think its a defenitive chance.
Depends on the car, Toyota looks funny, while I don't even notice all the extra bits on the Hyundai. They really look like the current WTCC cars with all the aero.

Meeke needs to get his shit together. Wtf was that on the last km.
Citroen seemed to have the car to beat this rally. Imho its mainly becuse of the WTCC experience, they knew how to cool down the "new" engine setups at high temperatures.

They did most of their testing on gravel and the team is competition rusty.

Kris hasn't had enough full seasons of WRC compared to Ogier and the like.

I wish he hadn't scared me like that. I was watching it live.

Congrats to him though, it was almost perfect.

Congrats to Nueville for his win today, it's about time. Incredible that Ogier still managed to get second place despite his problems and time lost yesterday.

Good job Ogier, and nothing new at Ford, being weak on tarmac. I think they havent won a normal tarmac event in a decade. And I doubt it they will even with ogier, if meeke and neuville drive well.
I expected more from Sordo and Breen. Both are tarmac specialists, or as close they can be in this selection of rally drivers, both were fast cars that could win the rally and niether shown any real danger to the top place.
This also makes me curious, why are there no more tarmac ringers, like panizzi and delacour in their days.
Toyota keeps suprprising me. They really need the third car and get Lappi on the WRC if they want some manufacturer success.

That would be great, although I think it's only fair that Mikkelsen gets a drive somewhere first because he's just bored running away with WRC2 victories. I'm not sure what will happen with Juho, he did well in Mexico despite being ill but when he's fine he seems to just make mistakes.

Mikkelson will probably change lafabvre or hanninen next season. Both seem to have crappy seasons so far, and they will be the weak points in manufacturer championship.

Let?s not forget that?s exactly what Lappi and Suninen did last year and back then there was even more competition (+ Suninen didn?t even have a factory team car).

Four different manufacturer winners in the first four rallies of the season for the first time since 1986. Awesome! :) The end result may be roughly the same as usual, but it's nice to have variety along the way.

It's getting more and more clear Ford nad Hyundai are the cars to have this season. Citroen and Toyota are only fast if Latvala and Meeke have a good weekend.
