The F1 Technical Developments Thread

It looks that when the wheel is fasten and the gun goes this fin locks the wheel. Then when they want to unfasten the wheel it unlocks just when gun goes on. Simple but helpful.

Sorry for double post, but does anybody know how these new Ferrari wheels works? Is it some substitute for wheel covers? It helps airflow around the wheel or sucks air into the wheel to cool the brakes?

Airflow, I guess, it's probably the only type of wheel cover that's legal now.

And it's not really a wheel cover, as it looks to be part of the wheel itself (welded on). If Ferrari were to use it, maybe they can pass it off as a cool new wheel design. :p

Those fins should be banned! they are hideous!

The fact that they're not painting means it probably came out very rushed or is very experimental

New diffuser, deck, winglets, exhausts. That's a lot of work.

Thanks ahpadt

That Ferrari diffuser seems damned big

Is that a Ferrari style wheelnut on the Merc?

Wow, does it means that McLaren's supercomplicated diffuser wasn't that good? And now I'm becoming more and more confident of Ferrari's form. :D

With a fin on a Ferrari I was surprised last year that after 2008 they stopped using it, so it's interesting they've reintroduced it now.

It's still supercomplicated, but slightly changed. The lower deck which used to be curved is now straight.

Button said that with these new updates, McLaren have a great platform to build from and find a lot more performance.

On another note, pretty much all the teams have tried out lots of different front wings, with various end plates.

EDIT: Sorry about the McLaren theme, but that's what I can find...

Presumably the new engine cover.

That is one weird exhaust pipe shell design. It's probably to channel air to the rear winglet or something. And McLaren still have the round part in their diffuser.
