So my front wheel drive car is doing a loud grinding noise on the front right wheel only when I'm turning left and giving it some throttle at the same time.
I've jacked the car up and turned the wheel freely, it doesn't grinds, so it can't be the bearings (right?)
Under no throttle it doesn't grind... so it has to be the half-shaft or the inner race?

Haven't taken the wheel off the car yet so suggestions?

CV joints?

Bearings can make noise when they're under load and be silent when they're not. Check for play on that wheel and check for brake issues on that wheel first, just to make sure you're not going to be making an expensive and unnecessary CV replacement. If those two check out, then go for the CV axle.

That said, get under the car and look at the CV boots. If they're torn or rotted and they look like they've been that way for a while, yeah, you should just replace the axle.

No play I could feel, wiggled it around when I was checking for the ball bearings crunchy sounds of "replace me". I'll check those things asap

The boot did seem to be whole and 'healthy'
