Metal Meltdown: Metal Music Discussion

A David Gold tribute album was released last month. It was produced by the legendary Dan Swano and features... honestly a bunch of people I've mostly never heard of and at least half the covers are pretty meh, which I feel is mostly because of people trying to imitate Gold's vocal style which they really shouldn't bother trying to do since his voice was weird and a lot of people never liked it in the first place. I heard about it before but had forgotten all about it until I just stumbled upon it just now. Who's David Gold, you ask? The late frontman for Woods of Ypres. Woods was always very polarizing, I think Gold's music was/is deeply personal, honest, touching etc (at least the last two albums, anyways). The last album can basically be interpretted as a self written eulogy, and if you do it's emotionally crushing. Yada yada. I'd get more into it but people seem to only treat this thread as a post links and ignore anything anyone says thread.

ANYWAYS, it's released on Bandcamp, so you can listen to the whole thing for free.

tl;dr, here's a videolink

A moment of silence... but not one moment more
The dead are to be forgotten, we are here to be adored

Look me, in the eyes, don't believe a word they say
For life is good, life is glory, though we live, one life only
Tell me, in real time, don't hesitate to profess
Love me, in the flesh, don't wait 'till death to sing my praise

Love Woods of Ypres. I wouldn't mind hearing the whole tribute album. I really liked David Gold's voice, although his lyrics were very.... literal. There is something to be said about the way he wrote music, but it certainly makes for polarization in the audience.

Good to see this thread still alive!
Random : is it just me or is Testaments last album Dark roots of earth their best one yet?

How do you not like a song about an Ahhnold movie!

Lita is still kicking ass!

You guys may want to check out the new Grand Magus album. They really outdid themselves this time.

As for the new Hatriot... It's good, but nowhere near as good as the debut I think.

Pleasantly surprised by BLS' Catacombs Of The Black Vatican. Well crafted songs, a decent production job and Zakk singing through his mouth rather than his nose all contribute to the best BLS album in quite a long time.

Epica - The Quantum Enigma is a seriously good album. Think along the lines of Nightwish but harder and more guitar driven. Plus Simone Simons

Looking towards you Icebone, you should enjoy it I think!

Umm. Yeah... all I've heard is that single and it made me rethink my entire life. It's shitty. And they had been my most favouritest band in the world since Consign. Maybe the rest of the album is better, not in a hurry to find out, but as I understand it The Essence of Silence was written by the new bassist or something...

Each to their own. I cant see any real difference between this album and anything they've done since Design Your Universe.

Reanimating this corpse from a shallow grave.

So CJ and I said fuck it and we're seeing a shitton of acts in the next few months.

Just nerded out to Amaranthe with the Butcher Babies last night (they signed my tits, it was great). And I saw Ghost for the second time last month.

Blind Guardian is coming up this Tuesday, then DragonForce with Kamelot, King Diamond and Exodus and then the next day, Between the Buried and Me, Black Label Society, Epica, At The Gates, and we're going to get tickets to see Cradle of Filth (with Butcher Babies opening again  ). This will be a very metal holiday season :D
