Beer

People talk about Heady Topper and Pliny The Elder but here in Sweden we can't get any of those. We can get this though.

It's the Omnipollo Nebuchadnezzar and it would surprise me if it isn't up among the top five when it comes to Imperial Indian Pale Ales... in the world. IBU is around 100 and the complexity of the hops is very hard to describe. Lots of citrus notes and a dash of something that can almost be described as pine. Very drinkable despite the fact it hovers around 8,5% alcohol.

Leffe, fucking Leffe everywhere.....

I honestly don't know why Leffe sells so good. It's just a thin copy of way better beers.

I dont think that leffe has bad beers, but they are not that special either..

Barley Wines and the likes walk a thin line, they can either be really tasty and easy to drink or taste like something you scraped of a rhinos balls. This is one of the best ones i have come across so far.

Sweden finally got another batch of Orval! I grabbed four bottles and so far, I have downed three.

I have had a 'beer night' today, enjoying some brews I had never had before:

Naparbier Porter (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/naparbier-janis-porter/175307/)

Lost Abbey Inferno Ale (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/lost-abbey-inferno-ale/87082/)

Struise St. Amatus (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/struise-st-amatus--oostvleteren-12/119174/)

And finally.... Westvleteren XII (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/westvleteren-12-xii/4934/)

Was it expensive? At 12 ? for a 33cl., it was the most expensive beer I've ever had.

Was it good? It was definitely very good. Some very nice fruity, malty flavours.

Was it worth the price? Well, maybe I'm not educated enough, but compared to the St. Amatus I had just ahd before or just say, maybe Im commiting sacrilege here, even a widely available La Trappe Quadrupel, I'm not sure if I have enjoyed it more than those.

For once I find myself agreeing with Leffe boy over here, Westvleteren is in the top 10% of best beers in the world from a technical level, but there are plenty of beers from said 10% more readily available that are made just as good, as artisanal, and with just as big an array of tastes, if one considers taste as something that can be measured.

It's mostly hype, the whole 'liquid gold only available in limited quantity' thing is a marketing trick, it might not have started out that way, but it sure is now, scalpers buy up the limited stock, inflating prices even more, and the end results is that you end up paying 12 bucks for a bottle, 2, maybee 3 of those going back to the actual brewery.

Westvleteren is an apple product, a hype being pushed by people that are brainwashed about how superior their beloved brand is, and you end up being glad about paying 700 buck for a damn phone after waiting in line for 3 days.
