UK gets bored of Europe, wants out.

Tory backbenchers voiced their dismay at the three-line whip - the strongest order a party can give - on Conservative MPs, which meant any who voted against the government would be expected to resign from government jobs.

That awkward moment when your country completely throws its illusion of democracy out the window...

Vote them out.

It was also leaked that any Conservative who voted in favour would be vetoed against holding a government position for the remainder of the parliament, and that they would not be looked at kindly when candidates are selected for the next parliament because of the upcoming boundary changes.

Fair enough - MPs with scruples, well we were asking for them instead of 'moat', porn and duck house bandits.

There is no issue with the euroclub meetings as long as their decisions are only directly related to the euroclub, however seeing how that is nearly impossible full EU27 attendance is going to have to be required for most of the time anyway.

This debate came about because an online petition reached 100,000 signatures.

Hence making this inevitable.

We, the people of the United Kingdom, are dissatisfied with the result of the EU Referendum Debate on 24 October 2011 and would like the House of Commons to reconsider its decision in light of this petition and grant us an opportunity through a referendum to express our desire on the relationship with the EU.

70% of the population want a referendum, this isn't going away in a hurry.

What the public wants has very little to do with what the government does - See the Iraq war protests, government didn't give a shit, and you end up stuck with them until the next election rolls around.

Last election was very much a case of who was least bad, rather than who was best.
In the end I didn't vote at all because I looked at the only 3 parties who had a chance of winning and they consisted of Labour, who dragged the country into a idiotic war and ran out of money, the Tories, who live up nicely to their rich, nancy boy, "north of London doesn't exist" stereotype and the Lib Dems who from what I saw were gaining most of their votes simply by being not Labour or Tory. (And from the students they told they'd reduce fees for, who then got shafted in the so called "coalition government".)

Traditional vote catching manifesto pledge - there will be a referendum on the EU. ? Both Labour and Tories have so pledged, but when they get into power they go - 'Oh Shit' the people will vote to get out and where will my over paid bolt hole be?

Anyway, no one actually has any say in this apart from Brits; so you lot of Euros can be a tad more careful about what you say and wait to pay for the extra 18 Billion - possibly a little less - when we go. Even if it is true about less trade it is not your bloody business - funny how all the Brits want out and all the EUROS (even people in countries not in) want us in but are really annoyed by us.

Point of fact Mrs Thatcher was for a very long time pro Europe - I remember her in that stupid pullover with the EURO flags on it campaigning for a yes vote, it took a long time and Jaques Delors (another in a long line of Frenchmen taking from Europe) to put her right off it.

What the public want and what what is ultimately good for them are two things which are often mutually exclusive.

I was referring more to the term "you lot of Euros", which is slightly on the inaccurate and unobjective side... unless of course the British shall from now on be known as "Pounds", in which case only the latter would apply.

In the UK 'Europe' universally means 'Mainland Europe'... that tells you all you need to know about what the consensus view on Europe is in the UK.

I know, I know. I just don't believe it is in any way helpful to word an argument in an insulting way or to focus strictly and exclusively on one aspect of a complex issue.
